Understand that your perspective is not universal.
The raccoon looks upon a man and thinks
“the bald ape has raccoon hands!”
The octopus thinks
“the bald ape has lost both of its limbs!”
We are biased in ways
we cannot consciously comprehend
without a whole lot of reflection
and a little bit of help from our friends.
Your privilege is showing
do not pretend
that it ever isn’t.
XYP just like XYZ.
Examine your privilege
examine your zipper
examine your non-neutral perspective
though it may be quicker
to not in the middle of a rhetorical bout.
But don’t be surprised if you get
a punch in the face
while your foot’s in your mouth
if you don’t.
Consider the octopus
consider the raccoon
consider the view of the Earth from the moon.
From up there
we look empty too.
