A nice man - and what a surprise! in blackpropaganda

When we were at the art exhibition yesterday I met an old student now married to an old colleague who told me that an ex-colleague of mine had died three weeks ago and her husband was going to the funeral today.
The man who died was a lovely man - one of a number of people I knew who had been brought up a strict Catholic, in Liverpool, went into a seminary, and then decided it was not for him. While still professing his religion, although with a sceptical stance, he became a journalist - and a good one - and subsequently taught journalism in a couple of Universities which is where I met him - and worked with him. He was a gentle man (in the right sense) but with an acerbic wit - and his main are of teaching was the ethics of journalism. Ah, those were the days - whether it be phone hacking at the Sun and Mirror, or Fox News he would be hard put to make a point these days!.
Oh - and there is such pressure that it took three weeks to get a slot for the funeral - that seems a bit long.
Anyway I wanted to share that - you do not often come across such a nice man.
And since it is Sunday
and one of my favourite Eivgren’s - the look of surprise and pleasure as she finds something popping up suddenly - ah yes - plenty of meaning here!
