Writing Bug Flew Off Somewhere in The Daily

So I got an A+ for a piece I wrote about the Spider-Man deal with Marvel Cinematic and Sony. There was very little in the way of grammatical errors or spelling. A ton of the material was solid, and my teacher thought it was a well-written piece.
I shat myself today.

I might be screwing up at work for some part, but for what I am attempting to get into, I think I’m on the right track for getting work done. My writing skills are taking off in directions I never thought possible. They need to take off more. Up more. That’s where the red carpet is.
Tonight was just meh in terms of writing. I wrote about Charo coming to Soka University for a concert on Sunday. She was really big back in the 80’s on The Love Boat and Chico and the Man. Worldwide, she is known more as a phenomenal flamenco guitarist, trained by classical guitarist guy that wrote the book on guitar playing in certain styles, whose students included John Williams, a notable film composer for the 21st century.

I really didn’t have much to go on. Yeah, entertainment is my thing, but musical entertainment for me kinda fell by the wayside when I put my trumpet down. So I feel like I was trying to throw my bucket into an empty well. I had more material for what the other girl was writing, which was the upcoming Sleeping Beauty at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. It’s a ballet from the American Ballet Theater, and one of the cast members is Misty Copeland. Freaking Misty Copeland is in that shit, and I didn’t write about it. Her legs are like steel and gold all at the same time, and this girl who didn’t know shit for shat about ballet was writing about it, while I got stuck with Charo, whose biggest achievements happened before I could put together a proper sentence.

Enough about that.

It was interesting in Linguistics. I got my score back from my test. Keeping it real- I failed it. However, there were a number of notes on it encouraging me to seek help out and the professor offering her assistance. I felt like she really wanted me to get a hold of this stuff. I do want to get a better grasp of it as well- seems like when my mind is attempting to get a gander at this more structured way of looking at our little language we like to call English, I become more aware of the sentences I create for myself. I add qualifiers, determiners, prepositional phrases as well as adverbials and subject compliments that add to the flavor of what I’m trying to communicate. It draws more attention, as it gathers a higher caliber of thought process, and gets my mind in an appropriate place to think about things in that mathematical style.
It’s not just applicable to the the desk at school. As my acrobatic class is more than happy to point out, as well as many of my life teachings- your strength is chicken scratch if you don’t have a plan, and a mind to see it through. It’s about the how you arrive to the conclusion, rather than just doing something in the hopes you might get there. The artist must have a strategy. The dancers must have choreography to keep it all together.
What I’m trying to say is that Linguistics is teaching me to put my all into it, and I’m hoping that you might do the same. You might have to look in the mirror one fine fucked day and say, “Ya know, I did this to me.” Adding wryly, “I need to make some changes around here.”

Other than that- the usual masturbation to a Megan Salinas video. Trying to keep up with the protein intake (totally unrelated), and getting emails for the upcoming acrobatic show and putting my schedule for the week to the ultimate test.

1:01 am and I’m hardly keeping my eyes open. We’ll just leave it at that.
