So there I was in BJ’s with Edgar’s roommate in Paris having a drink and talking about the way things have changed.

There’s something comforting about seeing the people I know in places that are familiar. We were discussing a lot of things, the fact that three years have passed, how our relationships have all morphed into different things since we got back from Paris. He and his once-best friend Drea are no longer speaking. Edgar and I are mildly estranged. But RJ and I discussed that. Edgar’s shut himself off from everyone except for the people who tell him how talented and exciting he is. That’s one of the biggest pitfalls to going into stand-up or just any type of performance-based lifestyle. Performers have a tendency to become encapsulated within their little world, they no longer go out and view themselves as part of the world, they are isolated in their little box continuously being clever and commenting on it, but never of it.

Apparently, Edgar thought he walked on water when he went to RJ’s Christmas party. I hope he finds some balance soon because other wise he’s going to being accruing casualties.

It was strange having to juggle everything. It seemed as though I was simultaneously looking at my past, present and future. There were people reflecting the things that I had done, people demanding my attention when it came to school work that needed to be finished immediately upon my return to Southern California, and a glimpse of what my life will be in a few short months when I finish school.

It’s a strange place to be when you feel like you can see all of time for just a brief moment. I’ll be okay. That’s a big lesson and a big statement to make. It always feels like I’m on the brink of collapsing but here I am on the home stretch.

Now I have work to do.
