Glad in At the foot of the hill

I made myself go to Bible study yesterday. We started a new line of study, and got new books. On the first page of the introduction, leader’s guide, it says that the leader’s function is not that of a lecturer or teacher.... We’ll see. Anyhow, I went and the session was good and I’m glad I went…

Now, back to ordinary things. We got about an inch of snow overnight. A wake-up call. It is still winter, even though we have been having many days of high 60’s and even 70’s. The sun is out, though, and if you know anything about Colorado sunshine, you know how quickly the snow will disappear… and the forecast is for 50 this afternoon.

I’m not trying to rub it in for those of you in the northeast.... You have my sincere empathy. I remember a couple of winters when we lived in North Dakota when the weather was much like what you are getting there. It is no fun! Hope you get a big improvement in conditions soon.

We don’t dare gloat too much. There is still 2 1/2 weeks in February to get through, as well as March, April, and even May, when we could–and very probably will–have our Winter.

Husband got a call last night from a cousin who is doing a “book” on his family and is looking for pictures of our branch, as well as that of Papa’s late brother. Most of our pictures got packed away and buried in our storage locker.

I had intended to go through those boxes two years ago, but out-of-sight, out-of-mind. Since I don’t have much going on the rest of the week, I went down with Papa and showed him which boxes I wanted and we loaded them on a dolly and now they are all open and spilling their contents all over our office. I am trying to visualize a plan whereby I can sort, organize and downsize. Several boxes have framed photos in them. I have no wall space for them. I’d already hung as many as there is space for. Think I’ll have to take them out of the frames and put them in albums, donate the frames to goodwill… That would certainly cut down on the storage space…but I don’t really have anywhere to put that many albums, either. Guess I’ll make a trip over to the dollar store and see what I can find… The albums will take up less space, even in boxes in the locker than all these lovely frames…

Papa is half-way through the second week of being a volunteer tax aide. This year he is working four sites: Monday afternoon, Wednesday morning, all day Friday and Saturday morning. Monday mornings, he volunteers as a counter at church and Thursday he has his Kiwanis meeting and meals-on-wheels delivery. Not being as young as he used to be (who is?), he is beginning to get tired. Along with this busy schedule, his blood sugar is all over the place. I try to help him with his diet, but it doesn’t seem to make that much difference what he eats, as long as he doesn’t go overboard. Doc put him on once-a-day insulin, and it is helping, but not totally. It worries me.
