Doris and I spent a three day weekend together. Friday night was a low key evening with some food shopping and a Chain Restaurant for dinner. We went to Applebees. for dinner as Doris charts the Weight Watcher Points for every morsel. Then we managed to make an AA meeting at 8 PM and I dropped her at her place. I was pur to work lugging in groceries. I was tired and headed home. I get up early on Saturdays, 5:30 AM , to set up the AA Beginner meeting. I had an ulterior motive as my favorite TV show came on Max at 10 PM., Banshee an I got to see it.
I went to pick up Doris aboutn5 PM Saturday and off we went. She had some items to exchange at Chicos and I saw a nice costume bracelet that I bought while she was distracted in the dressing room. From there we went on to dinner at a great steak house and we both has Fillet Mignon with sautéed mushroom caps. Doris looked at the totals on her app for dinner so we had coffee and skipped dessert. We just managed to get into the movie as even though this was the 3rd weekend for the movie it was packed. An usher had to have two people change their seats so that Doris and I could sit together. We both like the movie and were moved by it’s raw power. This movie really showed the price our soldiers paid to defend us and just not the physical but also the emotional toll on them and their family. Doris’ reaction was a visceral as my own.
We went back to my house afterward and then I surprised her with desserts I had pre-made, Crème Brule. We went in for the night about 11 PM and just totally relaxed.
Sunday morning Doris and I went to a lakeside place for breakfast. Normally we like to watch the ducks and swans in the water but they remained huddle for warmth at the shoreline. We then went and gathered up her two grandsons and their playmate , a young girl of 9 years. and off we went to the Local Community College. The boys are 4 and 8 but this was the first time Doris let me meet any of the family except the time we took the kids to Chucky Cheese. I met the Mother and shocked both her and Doris by greeting her in Tagalog as she is from the Philippines. Doris jaw dropped and they both wanted to know how I knew the language and I gave no hint of what else I had learned by once a long time ago dating a group of Filipino Nurses. Those were the days.
