Doctor Bob .... Doctor Bob … Please report to the OR.
I got called to unload a Comanche at the plant. Was a 359 pm call, and we waited an hour and a half for the train to arrive. The Renzenburger assist van was called to transport us up there. The will also assist as needed during the unloading process.
We went up via the CF&I steel mill the back way to Southern Junction. Took the dirt road, to the “DP’s“. I boarded them, did the walk the round, signed the cards. Took fuel readings and isolated the non DP link unit.
We head for the head end and the Dumper office. I get dropped off, walk the head-end and get ready, to enter the dumper. I get the okay from the plant and the switch foreman.
On the way up our young female Renzenburger driver, who has a crush on the switch foreman says to me, “You don’t look like an engineer”. “Really, what do I look like?” “You look like a Doctor”. I said, “well thanks, but if I was a Doctor, I wouldn’t be on the rails and unloading coal trains.”
I was Dr. Bob this whole shift, plus when she was our assist.
We entered the dumper, spotted the first three, and the train was unloaded within 9 hours. 30 cars left, the Dispatcher was called to let them know. They would place a call out, or stage for crew.
A successful Operation.
