Break from the sun. in A small but passable life.

The weather here in The Valley of the Sun wasn’t optimal for lazing by the pool for the last couple of days. Day before yesterday it was too windy. Warm but windy. Yesterday it was too cool, barely into the sixties.

Right now at 10:34am it is 63 degrees, on its way to a forecast high of 76 degrees. Maybe by noon. We’ll see.

I finished reading “The Shock Doctrine” by Naomi Klein. I also watched the movie by the same name on youtube. A definite eye opener for sure. This world is such an amazing illusion.

I went over to the little park library yesterday and found a novel to read. A familiar author so it should be a good read.

Jassy called yesterday. She had driven the van. No problems, but she’s still worried about the hesitation in the acceleration. I told her to check the transmission fluid. I think after she runs that years-old tank of gasoline out that things will improve.

She is still working on my list of groceries. She found a 16oz jar of honey for $4. I told her I’d like to have two of them. I’ll use that in my coffee and oatmeal. I think I need to order more chocolate, beyond just the hot chocolate, which she has already bought 10 envelopes of. Maybe some dark chocolate chips. Or some dark chocolate Hershey’s Kisses. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

I’ll take my hand crank weather radio, my Kindle, and my iPod. I’ll take the small solar charger of Jassy’s. It should be able to keep everything powered up. The Kindle though should last the whole month on a full charge. I’ll load the iPod up with about 32 hours of random songs. I have no idea how long the battery charge lasts on that particular Nano. On the one I usually use it can go through about 8 hours of music maybe four times, if I remember right. I know the radio will go for months on one set of batteries. And then after that I can crank it. If I take that old digital camera I’ll take the rechargeable batteries and rig up a way to charge them with the solar charger. If I don’t bring that I may not need the solar charger. We’ll see.

All that and my paper journal should be enough to keep the boredom at bay. I do plan on re-hiking all the trails out there. It’s been years and years since I’ve done the “Grand Tour” of the area. Oh yeah, plenty of sleeping too.

I’m definitely going to be ready to get away from the TV and the internet for awhile. No news but the weather should be a nice break.

I’m looking forward to it.
