So many little things in At the foot of the hill

Aarrghhhh..... Wrenched my back. My heating pad shorted out. My oven is not heating right. My computer has a virus, I think, and keeps jumping off the internet. The microwave oven went kaput (management did replace that). Had to get a new battery put in my car. Seems like it’s something else every day. I’m getting paranoid.

There is some good news, though. Bob’s doctor finally agreed to prescribe once-a-day dose of insulin for his diabetes. So far it seems like it is going to get the blood sugar under control, and maybe he will be able to eat something besides salad and nuts.... He developed a resistance to the usual oral meds and the very strict diet just wasn’t enough anymore. Fingers crossed and prayers solicited here.

He will be starting to assist people with their income taxes in another week or so. He has gone to classes on the new stuff, studied up, taken the tests and got his certification for this year. I used to do it with him, but quit last year, largely because my hearing has gotten so bad I had a hard time interviewing the clients… He’s been volunteering with the AARP program for about nine years. It’s a great program and open to anybody, free of charge, as long as they don’t have really complicated taxes. Preference is given to “low income” seniors, but as long as their particular situation in “within the scope of the program” they are welcome as time allows. All the tax preparers have to be certified each year and there is quality control on all returns (at least two people go over the return separately to make sure they are right.) There are sites all over the country.

The weather has been strangely nice here most of January with many days in the 50’s. About once a week, though, we seem to get enough snow to keep us on our toes… Makes one wonder what February will have in store for us.

I dropped one of my bridge clubs. It seemed like I was over-doing that a little. Now I have a couple of more days to read. Maybe I’ll write more if I ever get around to taking the computer to the Geeks and it starts working with me better. I try to read everybody every day, but don’t always get that done before the wifi cuts outs, so don’t think I’m ignoring you if I don’t always comment.

Meantime, good health to all and stay comfortable and cozy.
