We are back at the watercolour painting classes, our first subject was a white jug with apples and pairs on a white and blue cloth, my Daughter’s painting was lovely; mine – I could go better! No that it bothered me but about eight thirty a vey loud thunder storm passed by, I didn’t see any lighting but we all heard the thunder.
Through the last hour the storm rumbled on, and two or three rain storms passed by, a good time to be in class! As the class was coming to an end the lady across the table from me had repeated calls from her husband, her comments to the unanswered phone reminded my of June Whitfield’s character in ‘The Last of the Summer Wine’
Nelly and her unseen husband, who always called Nelly when the ladies were having a coffee morning’s, the massage was the power was off, and I must add this is the first time, unlike Nelly’s worrying husband! So we all left for homes hoping to be welcomed by the glow electric lights.
In the car park it was wet a cold, we had been lucky getting away in a gap between rain storms, once out of Truro the roads began to look rather white, not snow but hailstones! At first it was a scattering, then it become more each mile, and the starting speed of forty or fifty miles per hour slowly became twenty to twenty five. I can’t remember such a controlled journey home, and the other cars kept longer gaps between cars; I can’t remember it being quite like that in Manchester!
Driving down the valley we were pleased to see lights in most houses, at home all was ok’s, Lola doesn’t bother about stuff like thunder; come nine o clock she is looking out for us – well my daughter at least! Ziggy had been asleep on the settee when the first flash of lightning illuminated the lounge, by the sound of the thunder rumbled around the house he was off.
So a we were driving home, it’s only a seven mile trip, Lola had her nose to the glass looking for the car, Ziggy was curled up outside Daughters bedroom! It was near ten when we arrived, our usual time, and by then the entertainment had left to other places. In places round the bungalow there was up to five centimetres of hailstones! Here we have sealable hail here, none of that golf-ball sized stuff braking glass – I hope!
