vert and earnest in poetry

I’m sick of all this introvert-extrovert stuff.
I declare myself an outrovert.
It will mean whatever I want it to mean.
Sometimes I need a crowd of people.
Sometimes I need to go and process what I learned there.
Sometimes I need a small group of people who know me.
Sometimes I need a smattering of people that don’t,
total strangers so I can see
if my friends are just being nice to me.
Sometimes I need a crowd of people,
a place to scream and play
but I’d also go crazy in a month
if I had to see them everyday.
And there’s nothing wrong with that
there’s nothing wrong with any of those.
I do not need a limiting self-definition
like introvert or extrovert
to hang my identity upon.
I’m not going to bind
myself into a little box
just so I have something to hide behind.
I am an outrovert.
And that title means
absolutely nothing.
Thankfully.
