STS in All Of The Above

“STS” - the ‘Space Transportation System’.

In a previous life I worked on the Space Shuttle program. I cannot express the pride felt when the Orbiter rolled from the hangar, to the Vehicle Assembly Building, was transported to the launch pad (on an Alco-powered crawler/transporter!) where the vehicle went through its final preparations for its mission.

I’ve seen on Facebook the pictures of the ‘Cape Apes’ get-togethers they’re having in Florida. Some of the faces are familiar, some unfortunately are not, but to a person, WE were responsible for the sucess - or failure - of each and every mission.

The faces are older now, and a number of us have passed on, but we will always have the camaraderie, the teamwork, the ‘get it done’ attitude…

WE helped this country and the world ‘boldly go where no one has gone before’.

And we’re damned proud of it!
