(4) Do You Want To Build A Snowman?
Yo, hope everyone is having a good January 5th. For those in the Northern Hemisphere, stay warm. Those in the southern… stay cool. Obviously, ideal temperature is different for everyone but recent experience tends to suggest the outside isn’t really ideal temperature for anyone these days (at least, usually).
I did not get to sleep last night until 4:30. Which is terrible because, if well rested, my mornings are my most productive time of day! Of course not getting to sleep until 4:30 am meant I entirely slept through my 6 am alarm and didn’t wake up in time to get a good solid Study in before the wife woke up. She has the day off today and there are lots of things we need to take care of (all of them involving money, many of them involving big life issues like where to live and debt management and the like). So, when I finally woke up 8 hours after initially getting to sleep… wife is gone. I’m… sufficiently impressed, to be honest. She had enough get up and go to wake up before noon and run errands without me prodding and without me going along. So I managed to get a solid 3 hour shift of studying in! Considering I’m supposed to be at 8 hours this week… not brilliant, but progress. I need to be at 12 hours by next week so I just need to focus and push. A problem, of course, because now winter has really set in around here. I am, typically, a cold character. My grandfather, my father, and I all sweat like pedophiles at Toys R Us on Christmas when the temperature gets above 75! Buuuut when temperatures (including wind chill factor) consistently remain sub zero F… or roughly -17.8 c.... my inner Brown Bear comes out. I’m all “growl, bring me picnic baskets…” no, wait, wrong brown bear… I’m all “time for hibernation!” So… yeah, even with 8 hours… considering when those hours were and that it is presently (with wind chill) -4 F (-20 C) outside… both my wife and I are very “we have things to do but… nap. Nap sounds best right now.”
Which leads me into another way in which I am like my father… and unlike the stupid super sweaty, I kind of like this. My dad as always had a yen for comedic music. He would have us listen to Doctor Demento on Saturday mornings after the Cartoon Shows were over. His yen extends to commonly changing lyrics of a song if one is stuck in his head. There were many a Christmas times when my mom, a music teacher, would be humming a song… then a few hours later, Dad is singing his twisted version. A personal holiday favorite has always been “Chipmunks Roasting On An Open Fire.” Between my parents being musical and reading to me constantly as a child… I credit them with a lot of my ability to think of words on the spot, create poetry quickly, and my all around fascination with language. For instance… as my wife was crashing on the couch after errands (she went boot shopping again but didn’t find anything that could fit over her calves) I asked her which of our important errands we should take care of first… to which she said “Nap” and started to almost instantly fall asleep. Her saying “Nap” coincided with a Facebook Post a friend put up about the song “Do You Want To Build A Snowman?” and so… this instantly popped into my head:
Do you wanna build a snowman?
Or do you want to take a nap?
Would you like to go to bed right now
and fall asleep somehow
it’s so easy, it’s a snap-
Your pillows are so happy
And covers rock
I think that a nap sounds great!-
Do you wanna take a nap now?
It doesn’t have to happen right now.
Do you wanna build a snowman?
Or would you rather be in bed?
Do you wanna do our errands now
wait, you’ve got that furrowed brow
I know what you want instead
Because it’s kind of cold here
with the frozen winds
but we’re watching the day fly by
Do you wanna take a nap now?
I guess so do I
