Sunday.
A few pictures - of Christmas and the puzzle.
Katie likes to feel the puzzle.
The family - John looks a little disgruntled - it was not a posed photo.
Gracie and the puzzle story. We started it on Friday afternoon. Saturday morning, Gracie had to check it out. She carefully took what turned out to be three pieces from the edge of the table in her mouth. I saw her do it.
They tasted like cardboard. She dropped them on the floor. I picked up two, not realizing she had three. When we finished the puzzle Sunday afternoon, we were missing one piece. John walked around the floor looking carefully and found the last piece in the corner where Gracie had ‘spit out’ her puzzle pieces. Gracie has a kind and soft mouth. It’s not even very wet. The puzzle pieces were undamaged.

A coyote hunter came calling today. He plans to station himself on a ridge and call coyotes. He uses a call that sounds like a deer in distress. They coyotes investigate and then are shot. Nature is cruel. So are we.
The coyotes taunt Gracie and call her a house dog. They remind her that she sleeps inside and has medical care and food provided and she hears kind words and gets her ears scratched. The coyotes get none of that. They have the pride and honor of taking care of themselves - but that is about it. When they hear the deer in distress they will go to their doom. Some of them will. The hunter was wearing camouflage chaps.
The main deer season is over now. There are a few more weeks for bow and arrow and muzzleloaders and then the deer will be left alone. Then comes income tax season and springtime and another year will have a pretty good start.

I have an appointment tomorrow in LaCrosse to get my medical insurance changed over from Medicare to a HMO at the main ‘local’ medical providers. It will cost another fifty dollars a month but it is supposed to be better coverage. I go into optimistically. Why not? I think it will involve lunch at Fayze’s.
