Grief and joy..... in blackpropaganda

I think everyone can empathise with the catastrophe in Glasgow yesterday when a 26 ton bin lorry careered through the main shopping street before embedding itself in a hotel - six people were killed and others badly injured. Totally out of the blue, with the suggestion that the driver was taken ill, possibly a heart attack.
The juxtaposition of traffic with large numbers of shoppers is bad enough anyway - and I am always concerned when in a pedestrianised area and lorries and cars use it for deliveries - or or collect something from shops. What is a child suddenly runs out - or you don’t hear the vehicle behind you? Actually I am waiting for an accident just along the road from us when a traffic island on a bend has narrowed the lanes - and cars come too fast - sometime one will miss and run on - every time I walk along there I am aware of the danger.
Anyway - as the shopkeepers say - life goes on - and the merry dinging of the tills is still going on - actually tills don’t ding anymore! I was amazed by what people were putting in their trolleys yesterday when I was caught in enumerable queues in supermarkets and food stores. It is only for two days! They will be open again on Saturday!!!!
Also, I am suffering from a cold which has migrated from my chest to my head - so not a happy bunny here.
Still, I did see the 1955 version of Guys and Dolls last night on BBC4 - and how lovely to get lost in escapist Hollywood glamour - and true love winning out. Is it really 60 years ago? One thing that came out was the confidence of the US - and you could wallow in that kind of nostalgia. In the light of that we have to have a Gil Elvgren pin up from that period - remembering that it was on these that the masturbatory fantasies of boys were built.
