Today was a pretty good day.

Here’s what I did from the lists:
1. Talked to the sman. First on the list. Note well but don’t question.
2. Did laundry… as if that’s special.
3. Swept basement floor. Both rooms. The original pre-1895 rock basement with concrete floor dating from 1913 where the wood furnace lives. And my mother’s laundry room dating from when water was piped into the house in the early 1950s.
4. Made soup: Italian sausage, onion, brown rice, salsa (I realize I’m mixing ethnicities, so sue me), potatoes, carrots and frozen corn.

5. Read newspaper and did most of the sudoku. I’ve noticed that newspapers give you opinions, or wake you up to the ones you already have. Cedar Rapids is working on getting a casino again. They were turned down by the state gambling commission earlier this year. They are talking now of having a non-smoking casino. Apparently smoking is allowed in casinos. I wonder why. Smoking is not allowed anywhere else. I personally think smokers are healthier since they have to go outside to smoke. I think the exercise and relatively fresh air do them good. And they have to stay in good enough shape to be able to troop outside whenever they need or want a smoke. I also see that Mallard Fillmore (on comics page) is waging his annual war against parents selling their kids fund raising merchandise at work. I find that an unusual axe to grind. I of course am not a fan of Mallard but he is in big print and is easy to read.

Stuff not on list:
1. Cleared off table and counter.
2. Went through the implement writing jar and got rid of non-writing implements. I hung the nail clippers back over the edge though.

4. Swept part of kitchen floor and cleaned bathroom a little.
5. Talked to Paul, former neighbor who was delivering feed for calves. He wanted to confirm that the orange wagon in the yard was where he was supposed to put the feed. His wife is 55. How did that happen? He wonders.
6. Emptied the big Bloggett bowl of its contents, washed it, and put the remaining FFA grapefruit and oranges in it and put it on the counter.

7. Organized spare change a little.

8. Decanted coffee from paper bag into plastic Folger’s container. I may be the only person who puts more expensive coffee into a cheaper container. The Folger’s container is easier to open and close and coffee is less likely to spill in it. Every time I do it I remember the woman I used to work with who told about her newly married daughter whose husband wanted Miracle Whip salad dressing rather than a less expensive brand. The woman said she told her daughter to just by the cheaper stuff and put it in the more expensive jar. I think they are all still happily married.

9. I answered the phone every time it rang. I had: a. a hangup, b. a hunter from Wisconsin who wanted to use some of our land to drive deer or receive driven deer, I’m not sure. He was very polite. I let him talk to Jim. c. a soybean survey for Jim that never works because we aren’t big enough farmers.
10. Photoed the old dictionary that was once my pride and joy and my crossword puzzle resource. It needs to be taped up.

10. Took some other pictures.

More things to do:
1. Research pianos. 4
2. Clean and wax Vose & Sons.
3. Do some painting on canvas or plywood, in the artistic mode.
4. Clean out and wash my work sack - the black and white fabric one I got at Good Will .4
5. Put my important papers -mainly tax records - in the empty FFA fruit box and put it under the bed.
6. Clean out under the bed and try to get rid of shoes I no longer or cannot wear.
7. Go through the clutch of important papers stuck between the writing implement jar and the radio on the table. Organize same. 2
8. Finally finish Light Years and then start reading it again - as someone Facebook said they had done. I read some in bed this morning before I got up and it continues to be beautiful. 4
9. Call the vet and reserve a spay for the black cat. I should have done that today but tomorrow might be ok too, if not then Monday. They give out lender cat crates to facilitate transportation. 2
10. Write some haiku. I think haiku is like sheep, same plural as singular.
11. Look for piano wax. Last time I did that was on a hot summer day during shutdown from my old old job. While I was doing it, Ross Perot announced his withdrawal from the Presidential campaign. He later changed his mind and managed to muddy the waters enough that Bill Clinton got elected. Or maybe it was the time before. Wax might still be under the kitchen sink. I will look. 2
12. Dust the poinsettia. 2

13. Watch for LL Bean sales to use up my gift cards. New coat is the plan. For me.
14. Call my investment guy. Ha ha ha. I mean the one who seems to be in charge of my old job’s 401K. Maybe I need to know what to do with it. It’s pretty small but I still need to make the phone call. 4, sorta semi
15. Two more and I have 16 which is how many days I have left.
16. Hmm.. any ideas?
