At last - time to sit down and write something.
The group celebrations are now over - and we slide down to Christmas with some cards still to post - and the decorations still to be finished.
The walking group on Tuesday has a great time particularly since the walk before our late lunch was on a beach with hardly any wind and no rain. A brisk walk really got the appetites going - and we reached the restaurant which had opened especially for us just after 2.00 pm. 29 sat down for a two course meal, some with starters and some with desserts - well organised serving - excellent food - I had beef followed by Christmas Pudding - and we could bring wine with no corkage.
Since one of our party was driving and only having a token drink two of us got through most of a bottle of Pinot Noir - and a third of a bottle of sauterne dessert wine. Even though many of the party stuck to water there was a lot of noise in the dining room - and I did my best to aid the jollity with my flashing Santa hat - do say if you want a pic with me flashing!
Yesterday we went to the city for the day to meet up with a friend who was giving us a couple of bottle of good wine as payment for a picture I had done - great bargain! Then some music, shopping, Bratwurst and mulled wine - and back home. Hard day!!!
Today there was another walking group who were all ready for rain, but it kept off, the walk was good, and we finished, all 22 of us, with turkey and ham sandwiches, a mince pie and a couple of glasses of mulled wine.
We went back to our cars calling out Happy Christmas - the next time we meet it will be in the New Year.
Now I am back home, making some soup, going to have my hair cut ( I love having my head played with!!) and then settling down.
In other news....
England beat Germany 1 - 0 in a re-run of the Christmas Day 1914 truce soccer match. I am not happy the way this spontaneous event of 1914 has been utilised for all kinds of modern purposes. In 1914 no one knew the war would drag on for another 4 years - trench warfare was not as static - the bloodshed of later battles had not happened. Oh, and the senior officers at the time were very unhappy about fraternisation with the enemy. Some football did take place but the event has been made into a mythical thing - pity.
Oh, and at last US and Cuba are mates - Cuban cigars will be legal in the US - great stuff
The sun has just come out - wonderful
