my heart is almost new
my heart is gently used
my heart is pre-owned
factory reconditioned
refurbished
repartitioned
defragmented
debugged
freshly detailed
drained and refilling

my heart is still mending
my heart is still knitting
not dying
not fading
not ending
not forgetting
and also
my heart is my heart
it is not just a metaphor
for my spirits
my thoughts or my soul
it’s in there
it’s whole
it’s something more than fussy wordplay
it’s something still tender today
but there’s still work to be done
and maybe still
a little fun
