Getting out of the car after the last watercolour class of this term, I noticed the stars across the dark sky, they were surprisingly bright as they were sharing the sky with the waxing Moon, the Great Bear hung over Perranporth down the valley; and over the east side of the valley stood Orion, with Taurus a little above and then the Pleiades. The latter my Dad always called it the ‘Butchers Clever’ that was it was called in Derbyshire.

Welcome Advent, Boscawen Street Truro.

This morning the car was frosted over, we can’t have clear warm nights in December, tonight it is clear and cold already. I noticed that when I took Ziggy out, for a moment I washed I had put a coat on, but the pull of the night sky took over, tonight the Moon is nearing full and is very bright; walking with out a torch was no problem. A quiet look at my car I noticed it wasn’t frosted yet, but the roof was sparkling in the Moon light; no doubt there will be frost!

Boscawen Street dressed for Christmas.

Only the third day of December and I have started my Christmas shopping, mostly it was cards; general and family specific. We are careful about choosing cards, I noticed most with Fathers Day Cards, on that day of the year the card industry seems to have a liking for cards with ‘beer drinking Foxes’ my children made an effort to avoid such cards unbidden! Back home I was pleased to be told by Sweetheart I had found better cards than she had seen; an other brownie point to add to my painting ones ….

Truro Cathedral in the December sunshine.

While in Truro I went to my barber for my post Christmas haircut, my usual young lady wasn’t there, and looking round I noticed a few changes, the chairs we used to sit on waiting for our turn have gone, now there are benches that are only comfortable for a while, so I wonder if there wider changers; I couldn’t see any of the regular cutters! One cutter looked a little new to hear cutting, my lady was very good; Sweetheart told me!

St Mary’s Street and Truro’s Cathedral, Duke Street is just of the left side of the photograph, I haven’t tried the Deli – yet!

I had my first Christmas Card earlier this week, some one I worked with at Woolsworth in the early seventies, I’ve only seen him once since leaving to go to collage to study photography, but we have exchanged Christmas Cards ever since. This years card had a card with his new address, he never married and stayed at home with is mother; his farther died when I was still at Woolsworth. His Mother is in her nineties and has been in a home a while, and like my Mum she has dementia; deferent lives similar path ……

I gave him a surprise to night, he had put his telephone number on the card; so I used it.
