I’ll be back soon. In Laws in town yesterday and today, and my wife wants to “do as much Holiday shopping as possible” like… right now. Plus- twelve hour work day tomorrow. BUT since Thanksgiving will be spent alone… I plan on catching up with entries, responding to a LOT of notes and playing video games… eating like shit… and probably some of this as well- Funny and Entertaining Euphemisms for Male Masturbation
But before I go… this Ferguson thing is popping up in stupid as shit ways all around me today. You know… there was a white woman (granted she is super liberal living in a very conservative state) but a white woman trying to defend the looting, rioting, and violence last night that happened all over the country about the Ferguson thing. Defending it. Saying that “black people needed to riot this violently to get racist white people’s attention.” THAT sounds… like a typical white patriarchal near-racism argument. When she says that, I hear “These ‘special folk’ need to destroy themselves and everyone around them to show us ‘privileged folk’ that they need us to come in and save them.” THAT’S what I hear! You know what....... yeah, lets take the preliminary argument as valid. Lets say that all cops in this country unequally mete out punishment, abuse, and fatal actions onto black youth. So… how does that justify these communities cannibalizing themselves… or how does that justify the media acting like carrion in these places… or why does that make it okay for outside individuals to come into these communities to destroy, loot, and harm?
There is no acceptable reasoning, logic, “white guilt,” “patriarchal racism,” or reactionary revolution excuse for what happened. IF the peaceful protesters are correct and what happened in the Grand Jury in Ferguson is an example of nation-wide institutional racism… there are better and much less damaging ways to have this conversation. Did Martin Luther King Jr. advocate looting and rioting? Yet he had meetings of merit! He found a way to make people listen to him! I just… I honestly have to say… I worry that the Farrakhan Method is now prevailing and the MLK method is dying out.
Mostly, I want to leave you with these two memes before I take my brief hiatus until Thursday. No, I don’t believe memes are a good substitute for actual conversation and no, no issue of this grand a scale is binary. But… these are definitely things to think about:
