Author: Gail Tsukiyama

This multi-generational saga is set in Japan, before during and after WWII. The grandparents are taking care of their orphaned grandsons.

We follow the lives of the grandsons as they grow into men and start their own families. Each one is touched by the war as are the women they eventually marry.

Japan in the 20th century was teetering between modern ways and the old ways. Each character has choices to make which show the effect this dichotomy had on every day life.

It’s beautifully written. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. She seems to specialize in books about Asia.
