On holidays and the queen mum - 08/04/2002 in Opendiary Archive

Well i’m back from my home town. God it’s nice to go home. It’s just gorgeous. Shame I had to come back really.

Saw my girlfriend over easter. We hung out and played pool and stuff and it was nice, coz it felt like we were in a proper relationship and not just some weird facsimile (is that how you spell it?). We don’t really get that much time together because, of course, we live 70 miles apart. I knew it would be like this when I started this relationship 2 1/2 years ago, but still.

So two weeks of fun in the sun, alcohol, girlfriend, and work. Not bad I think you’ll agree.

I felt that things were coming together for a while. Now it seems to be flying apart again. I’ve got so much work to do it’s untrue. I should be out there doing it, but instead I’m in here complaining coz I’m not out there doing it. The exquisite irony is not lost on me.

So yeah. The queen mum. Dead.

Now, I don’t have massive anti royalist sentiments, but this whole farce has pissed me off. The queen mum lived till over 100, which I think you’ll agree is not a bad old age. Mind you, it’s no wonder she lived so long, she had pickled herself in gin.

But as soon as she died, this old lady as become a patron saint of britain almost. I mean come on. She was ok, and yeah she donated to charity. If I was one of the richest people in the world I’D donate to charity too.
She didn’t really make a massive impact on lives. We just looked at her like some sort of old pet, that you keep because it has sentimental value, but you know will never be of use.

I bear her no ill will. I’m quite sorry she’s dead, in the same way I’m sorry when people tell me that a person starves to death every 12 seconds. But the press have, as they did with Di, gone insane over it. There are more tributes to the queen mum out there then stars in the sky. Every newspaper has one. Why? Not because they care. No, it’s to prey on people patriotism.

Why couldn’t they all just get together, and make one big one. A massive book people could keep. They could sell that instead of scamming for tiny little snippets of paper that people are going to keep.

It’s not only sad, it’s offensive to the queen mum. All she is now is another profit making scam for the tabloids. It’d be laughable if it weren’t profiting from an old ladies death.

Ramble? Most likely. Poignent? God I hope not.
