Hi there dear readers!Well, so much for good intentions eh?I haven’t written an entry for so long!Over a month! As for noting,.....oops!It is a pig of a day over here on Waiheke Island.Taitai and I have got horribly wet and hailed on already! We ventured out at just after 6am after I had checked the sky and the weather then halfway rund the traps this HUGE squall rolled in and we were caught. So we raced back home in the face of hail and a freezing wind.Luckily Taitai had attended his toilet so he will be comfy until the afternoon.I have put on winter woollies again and as I write another squall is racing in.Another day inside so I thought I would try to complete and entry.
Good news on my last entry is that I have a spanking new fridge in my kitchen!Once I work out how out how to put pics up again,I shall try to show you!Ha ha!Makes you probably wonder how a new fridge is so momentous.Well, under my financial circumstances this year, it was a more than important celebration. It boosted my morale hugely and my faith in Winz, the social welfare group who have so let me down in the past.Life is goodto really, can’t think of anything much that has been bad.The big news this morning is that the child molester and murderer who escaped to Brazil has been recaptured and is in custody in Brazil. We have no extraditon treaty with Brazil, however, the NZ Police laid an immediate charge against him when they found him gone. He was red carded and his passport cancelled so he is an illegal entry to that country and it should be possible to immediately deport him.Lets hope that proves the case.
It wasn’t the police who let him out on unmonitored leave, it was Corrections, the Parole Board and Court system. It was the hard work of NZ Police,Interpol and the Brazilian Police who got him back in custody. In my opinion ,he should now be tried and given indefinite detention. No more chances. He is a monster.
As for the Interntional news which is horrific as regards Isis etc,I actually support the Government on passing laws to prevent NZ’ers who have travelled to Syria from returning and keeping up surveillance on any groups who come to notice as having ‘sympathies’ with these terrorist groups. This is our country and we are a nation who allows all manner of freedoms. Why should we close our eyes to these imminent threatsThe safety of our citizens and protection of these freedoms is paramount. The same goes for the Ebola threat. All protections possible for our health and welfare must be first and foremost in our minds and the minds of those who are elected to make these decisions.I have great sympathy for the victims always, however, we are a sovereign nation and must look to our own.
Good things have happened in the past weeks. As part of my work towards my Toastmaster Gold, I had to mentor someone.A lovely woman called Gela had been having problems with her speeches. She is a very reserved person, and although highly capable ,well educated and intelligent, suffered from enormous anxiety when speaking and she was so frustrated.I was asked to take her under my wing.I have always liked her and had felt so sad she was suffering so much as she is so capable.I am the complete opposite to her.I am quite loud and proud!Ha ha ha!She wanted me to be the ne to help her because I am so different to her. Also , a month or so ago I had done a speech on the importance of breathing properly, voice projection and nerves! These skills I learnt through professional swimming coaching and also singing lessons and years of being an amateur actress. At 70 years old and a smoker I can still hold my breath for 3 mins.Training and regular exercise help here.
So I agreed to see if I could help.Gela does wine-tasting classes one on one and has been asked to do group tastings. This plus the fact that she and her husband have a business which is requiring her to meet prospective clients and make presentations. Her speech-writng is great,Its the delivery that is the problem. So we made appointments for,initially,5 hours, then 2 and 3 hours. The first appointment was the most revealing and most difficult for both Gela and I!I went to her house and we sent a bit of social time where I found out more of her background and what happened to her when she tried to speak. Then I got her t read her speech so far standing in front of me!There it was.Chin down ,shoulders tight, hands shaking and wringing ,sweat and fast heart beat.Poor Gela!I made her make loud noises, wave her arms, breathe in through her mouth etc etc!She doesn’t DO loud noises,or breathe through her mouth! Anyway, with much laughter, me demonstrating and her copying against her will, we finally got to the pont after 3 L-O-N-G sessions at her place, where Gela, opened her shoulders, kept her head high, learn to project her voice and with the arms open she could then use them for body language. This lady was just as earnest to learn as she is in her everyday life!
Polly was evaluating Gela.I couldn’t have asked for a better evaluator.Thankyou so much Polz!
Gela and I did the breathing exercises in the kitchen before the meeting,I reassured her she would be fine, and I was nervous for her!She was FINE!!!Phew!Once or twice she had to refer to her notes, however, she could be heard, she could bring light and shade to her delivery because she was using volume.her body language was good because she had open stature and I was totally rapt!!!!What a lady! She did it through sheer force of will, a need to learn, and a litttle help from me.I am so proud of her.
Also my 18 year old granddaughter Samantha (Sammy) graduated from High School. Her schooling here has finished. Now it is the world that will continue it!She is taking a ‘gap’ year to sort out what she really wants to do,however, is leaning towards a Sports medicine degree at Otago University. She is very beautiful, very sporty and VERY adventurous. It was a joy to see her walk up to recieve recogniton and an award for Physical Education, strong, tall, proud and gorgeous!I am so proud of her!!She is also very kind, funny and delightful to know. The evening was full of awards, had a very strong Maori component , which was never overwhelming and I loved every minute of it.It was 2 hours long and I never felt bored and there was one prize which really caught my attention for all the right reasons, and was a new one and given freely. It was the prize for diligence!!!Yay!A prize given for consistent hard work and perseverance!Wonderful! Our local high school is excellent and so far has done very well by 3 of my grandies and I am a proud granny!
Well, the talkfest of APEC in China and the coming one of G20 in Australia have had diverse reactions.I have no objections to this.We have to trade globally and these all help. The Heads of governments meet talk, swap views set appointments to for Ministers of Trade to meet again, encounter problems. This is all necessary in my book as a New Zealand citizen. We don’t NEED to know EVERYTHING that was discussed.Well I don’t need to.HELP!!!
Family fine.My son rang me last night.WE talked for an hour!I loved it so much.I don’t hear from him very often as he has his life to live and I KNOW he loves me.HE is 44 and is delightful and I adore him.Hopefully he is bringing his 2 youngest children up to be here for Christmas.Fingers crossed!
WEll I had better finish this now and I do hope I haven’t bored you to tears!I also had a lovely phone call from my favourite aunt whis is nearly 90!!She is a wonderful role model,Still plays golf 3 days a week, plays bridge and loves life!We talked for a hour.
I do hope you are all well and enjoying life and if not,may God be with you and you have my thoughts prayers and love.
Be kind to each other , and live each day to the full.
Lots of love and God Bless
