Good Day in Life in General

Had a successful day today.
I started with a crappy thing that happened a few days back. I was at my MILs house helping around and I pull my phone out of my pocket and realize the screen is severely cracked. I never dropped so my guess is my leg hit something while it was in my pocket.
I was ignoring the cracks but this morning the screen started failing. A black spot is spreading across the screen and soon enough it’ll probably be the entire phone. It’s done.
I always consider older generation phones to save a few dollars since phones are basically the same every year now. So the Pixel 8 Pro was on my radar. I check Best Buy and they don’t have any unfortunately but I did spot they had an open box Pixel 9 Pro XL listed for $850. That’s a lot of money but it’s an $1100 phone so at least I could tell myself I got a deal. But it’s listed as “fair” condition so I needed to see it first.
Okay I get to Best Buy and first I gotta swap a computer mouse I broke. I had geek squad protection on it so it’s covered. Now this is an older style mouse that was replaced with a newer version so I figure they’ll have to either charge the difference for the upgrade or special order an old stock unit and I’d have to wait. Nope… they had it in stock randomly. So no paying extra and no waiting for a new one. Sweet.
Then I go to the phone area and ask about the open box Pixel and he says “yeah lemme grab it and you check the quality of it”. He brings it back and it’s flawless… no scratches dents or any sign of use.
Then the surprise… it was only $450. I don’t know why or how it was $400 less than what I saw online (I did double check the website when I got home and it was def listed for $850) but I DID NOT QUESTION IT. I scooped the phone up and high tailed it out of that store haha.
So yeah I got an $1100 phone for $450 today so that was pretty cool, and now I have a new phone with all the newest stuff which I never do because I’m a cheap fuck. Fun :)
Oh and side note… this isn’t the first time I’ve broken a computer mouse. I guess I’m pretty hard on em. So before I started buying the insurance, I had a broken one in storage. I was inspired to revisit it and see if there was any way to fix it.
After disassembly (which wasn’t easy holy shit so much glue) I found the broken switch. I learned during this process that most gaming mice all use the same style of switch, so fucking nerds on reddit like to buy them from different companies and swap them out and talk about the different click sounds and feel. Not my thing personally but I figure “okay so I’ll just buy new switches”
Well logitech in their infinite wisdom decided to use some proprietary switch that you can’t buy anywhere. But luckily I found a listing for the entire daughter board that has the switches on it for only $30.
At first I’m kicking myself, I’m like “damn so I bought a $150 mouse and the insurance when a $30 part could fix this one?”
Anyway I buy it and figure “okay these switches are getting replaced lemme pop the broken one open and see what happened.” Now this thing is tiny, like smaller than your pinky nail, but i managed to get it open.
Y’all, it was just a little piece of metal that was bent. I used some tweezers, bent it back… put it back together… and voila. It works. The mouse is fixed.
So not only did I get to cancel that $30 order, I have a fixed mouse and a brand new one in a box that I can toss on ebay and sell for full price and recoup some of the cost of the $450 phone that I already got a freaking steal on.
What a good day for a cheap ass like me haha.
