Even Though (The One Before the Last) in General

A long, long time ago I was living at the end of the universe – Harpswell Neck. It was the first winter home after X2 and I separated.

It was just me and the Bean. And we were a long way out in the water in what turned out to be a brutal winter.

I found some music program (name escapes me now – just shows you how fickle I am when it comes to computer crap) that would do some AI-like magic shit and give you recommendations based on what you listened to.

Apple Music does the same thing now, only better.

Anyway I discovered Gigolo Aunts. I remember listening to the song “Even Though (The One Before the Last) and feeling almost euphoric.

I knew the song was about X2 (to me). Little did I knew how prophetic “The one before last” would end up being. She was indeed the one before the last.

Audrey was my last love.

In hindsight, leaving me was the kindest thing X2 could have done. I can’t imagine still being with her. It took a few years, but she freed me up to find Audrey.

Even though Audrey and I didn’t last, I still love the way she made me feel.

She was impossibly beautiful, impossibly sweet and she absolutely loved me - of that I have no doubt.

I still see those blue eyes looking right into my soul.
