Day 77 - FB Fuckin' Me Over in These Foolish Things

I got a new iPhone AND a new iPad in the last two weeks.

It’d been three+ years since I’d gotten an iPhone upgrade, so I figured it was time. I financed it through AT&T, so now I have to stick with this 16 Pro Max for another three years, but that’s fine.

My iPad situation was weird. I used to only use an iPad to watch TV and scroll the socials. So when I found a super duper deal on the new (at the time) iPad Air, I pounced and purchased the lowest storage possible: 64GB!

But now I use my iPad for literally everything. It’s essentially my heartbeat, like my phone, but it also houses my digital planner, which I fill with every single work note and document and personal note and video and photo and …my whole life’s story. I should add my entries in there too, ya know? It’s my world.

So my iPad has been running out of storage for the last two years or so, and I keep trying to delete things to open up storage. Not only is it annoying to have to do, but it had gotten to the point where it would no longer upgrade to the latest iOS version, and I couldn’t use certain apps…some I needed for work!

Obvi, there are issues because I am required to use all of my own equipment for work, but I also needed things. I needed to do things. So I caved and got the latest iPad Air with 256GB.

ANEEEYYYWAY. I’m happy with my new toys.

But, seems that I now have to re-log into any and every app on my phone and iPad all at the same time. It’s kind of annoying, but I guess that’s the price one pays for technology, eh?

Where I have found a HUGE problem is with Facebook…which I rarely scroll anymore anyway. I keep my FB account open mainly because my dad goes in there a lot and I like to talk with him about things we see on FB and our mutual friends, etc. And I still have a lot of old friends in FB that I don’t see on any other platform.

But since I’ve logged into FB from my new Apple products, it seems there’s a BUG in the system. Facebook has been FRIEND REQUESTING people automatically!!!

These are people on my periphery…like friends of my sister-in-law or people I’ve met once or Best Bud’s son. They’ve all been accepting my friend requests, and I guess that’s fine, but geez, Facebook!! Why’d you go on a friend request frenzy?

What really freaked me out was that yesterday, I clicked on Facebook only to see that the FUCKING EVIL BITCH who FIRED ME from my big-ass corporate job nearly 20 years ago - the DEVASTATING BLOW after my first engagement exploded and I fell apart - had accepted my FRIEND REQUEST???!!!

What the actual FUCK, Facebook??!!

This woman RUINED me for a time in my life. She pushed me down a sinkhole of despair at that time! I was already on the ground, and she kicked me where it hurt the most: my livelihood. And it was during the last major economic downturn in 2008-2009 when things were really, really rough and I coudn’t get a job. What a nightmare. I thought that was as low as things could get, but life has a funny way of showing you that things CAN and WILL get worse, but you all know that story…

Of course, I was curious to see what she was up to, hahah. So I scrolled her page, but I did so with anger. It looks like she’s switched careers and is now an interior designer in the Berkshires. I guess she’s done with being a corporate fucking bitch. Good for her.

Anyway, all of that to say, Mercury is definitely in retrograde when it brings the ghosts of people past back into your life via technology.

I’ve tried to look up how to make the friend requests stop, and I still haven’t found the answer, so I guess I’ll just have to continue to become reunited with some old motherfuckers from my past for a little while longer.

Curious to see who else will creep out of the Facebook woodwork…

GS

That’s a good phone. I had one people have remarked about how good the photos are great camera. I also love the size.

WTH? I know FB has been getting more enshittified for several years now, but this is a whole new level, the poop du jour.

I don't know how familiar people are with custom groups on FB (their enshittification hides the functionality well), but I have a specific default list that I post to (I'm still trying to quit completely), and the occasional completely impersonal post that I open up to all "friends". It's a useful way to weed out the outliers without offending anyone.

What in the world? My phone is ancient now but if this "intelligence" is going to send out mortifying friend requests I will never put FB on it! I must have the old Nokia in a drawer here somewhere!

Here's how you do it: Delete your facebook account. :-)

I already told you why I keep my FB open...for my precious dad. If he wasn't here, I likely wouldn't have FB.

omg! I wonder if it's iphone or meta. I've had threads do the same thing. How annoying!

Ginger Snap Satine ⋅ March 19, 2025

Good question. Probably meta because they are so frigging nosy and have stopped fact checking.

When you move over to a new phone with Android it seems to remember your login for about half of the apps! I find bank apps are the worst because once I've used my fingerprints to log in for years I can never remember the passwords/pins. xx

Ginger Snap Complicated Disaster ⋅ March 22, 2025

I can't remember any of my passwords, so I go to the place where I've saved them, and I'd forgotten that I'd changed them and NOTHING is correct. ARGGHHHH!

Complicated Disaster Ginger Snap ⋅ March 22, 2025

Noooooooooooooooooo!! xx

FB is crazy.

I’m happy to hear you’ve got a new iPhone and iPad. I spend more money compared to ordinary people on both since I am teaching with my iPad (pro!) all days. Having a new iPad is always great and expands my life.
