Name: Hip Nerdy Attorney (HNA for this entry)

Introduction Platform: Bumble

Age: 57

Relationship Status: Divorced for some time. Not sure how many years, but I can tell it’s been a while. Three adult kids, two out of the house and one with special needs who lives with his mother.

Job: Employment Attorney

Lives: South Side of Town (I currently live on the North Side)

Length of Date: 3.75 HOURS

We Did: a 3.75 hour long COFFEE DATE!

He Looked: I took a little bit of a chance on this guy because his photos on Bumble look super stodgy (not all of them, but most of them - you can tell that one of them is his official “Attorney Profile Pic”), but when we met, his personality really showed through! He was wearing a nice, corduroy collared sports shirt with t-shirt underneath, casual loafers, and sexy dark-rimmed nerd glasses. He has a thin, lanky runner’s body. He’s also much taller than I am with heels! YES!

I Looked: I’d been to a vintage market earlier that morning and found a vintage, tan suede jacket, wore a sweater underneath with an animal print scarf, my sexy jeans that make me feel hot, and fun, tall cowgirl boots that have a decent, chunky heel.

Convo: So much, so much! The usual where-are-you-froms and where have you been and what do you do and family stuff. But then we moved into pop culture: music (he’s VERY into the local music scene, which is one of the biggest scenes in the country), books, podcasts, movies, binge-worthy TV. And travel. Lots of travel talk. I was surprised to find out that he’s not super traveled because he seems very worldly. But because he’s essentially an empty nester and his daughter just got a job as a flight attendant for a major airline, he’s talking about a lot of world travel.

High Point: As SOON as we met, I felt good vibes around this guy. Really GOOD vibes. It’s that chemistry thing. I didn’t feel sparks - I just felt good - like we could be friends AND more. We talked a long, long time. I get the feeling he’s a really good dude.

Low Point: There were three low points: (1) I felt embarrassed that I haven’t been out-and-about as it pertains to music because it’s SUCH an important part of the scene here; (2) he disclosed that his son has autism and has certain special needs. My mind flashed back to my relationship with Sexy Pants and his son who was VERY mentally ill and sometimes violent, and scared the shit out of me; (3) I had a coughing spell from talking so much! He had to run and grab me a glass of water! The environment around us was loud, and I guess I’m not used to talking so much with a raised voice!

How It Ended: I kept wondering when our date would end. I probably should have had “something to do” after two hours just to keep the anticipation up, but we kept talking and talking until suddenly he looked at his watch and said he had to go run to meet a buddy for a drink. It was a very nice date. I kept a LOT of information in - normally I spill WAY too much on a first date and it’s likely shocking to hear, and that’s likely why I have trouble getting second dates. This time, I kept things superficial and light, and it feels like it worked!

Chances Are: Good! Before we left he said he wanted to see me again and that he really enjoyed our conversation. I did too! He sent me his number though the app and asked me to text him, and I did. We’ve been texting here and there. I like him. I’d say our chances of seeing each other again is 90%.

Date Rating: Pretty solid A.
