Not really much going on. John is still pottering on at work with no idea still how much longer he’s got left there.
Rob has admitted feeling a bit flat. I guess after the excitement of Christmas and New Year, January is a bit blah. It’s still cold and dark and insanely quiet in hospitality. He’s paid some money to a driving instructor, and is now just waiting to hear back on when he can start lessons.
I don’t know if there’s much going on with Eleanor as she doesn’t talk much. But we did have a nice run out to Grasmere yesterday. We went to a cafe (soup for me, apple pie for her), visited the graveyard (which we always do, even though it never changes!) and walked around the lake. It was cold but pleasant, and it gives us the opportunity to talk.
Shellie, Rob and I have started our own little weightloss club. We all three have Renpho scales and use Facebook Messenger to stay accountable. I’ve by far got the most to lose, I’m probably the heaviest I’ve ever been! I’m trying to make more mindful choices, like yesterday eating carrot soup in the cafe, when the cold weather saw me really wanting a cheese toastie. I’m also using My Fitness Pal to keep track of my calories, and I’m hoping that by having to make note of everything, it will reduce me wanting to just grab a handful of cashews when I’m in the kitchen.
I’m knitting myself a waistcoat. I’ve been wanting a 70s style waistcoat for years, but have never found one I liked. I don’t have a pattern, but I made a net out of paper and I think the shape I’m knitting is going to work. Watch this space!
Work the other day was amazing. We had lovely customers all day long, which is a rare occurrence. The highlight was when a tour group of 10 choir singers, burst into an impromptu rendition of The Wild Rover. By the time they’d reached the second chorus, all the customers in the shop were singing and joining in with hand claps. It was magical! I was about to head out with my group and joked to them that I’d expect nothing less from them as well. One lady got really worried and quietly asked me later on if they really had to sing! It was such a laugh.
Today is Monday. John and I are off work, Eleanor doesn’t have college and Belle is with the boyfriend, who got back from New Zealand yesterday. I’ve got nothing planned really, other than chores. Might work more on my waistcoat.
