Hah. Welcome back to work, everyone! Today’s the day we all circle back from all that shit we left undone last year. I love all the memes that have been going around, but I’m also guilty of doing it today. So much stuff just completely fell off last month! And I’m scrambling before I have my meeting with Head Cat (of course, nobody else seems to have the same sense of urgency, ha! Everyone appears to be easing into the New Year…hopefully, Head Cat will be in that same headspace).
…and that meeting is now over. Yep. Easing into it. All good.
So, I have a whole list of things I wanted to write about. I don’t know how detailed I’ll get because sometimes the wind goes out of the sails after the fact, doesn’t it? That said:
Party #1 of The Two Holiday Parties: was Lovely Leah’s Birthmas, which is just like it sounds - the combining of her birthday and Christmas. It was held at Lovely’s beautiful brand new house she’d just moved into three months prior. Many of my old Girl Crew showed up for this. These are the girls I used to party
hard with, sometimes getting in big trouble with various “dudes we dated” because we were horrible influences on each other. It’s always lovely to get together with this crew because we can be those girls we were when we first started our careers…before marriages (theirs, of course) and other disasters. The reason I say “disasters” is because one of the first things Lovely told me when I got there was that she’d recently found out that her husband has been cheating with more than one woman. Oof. What a fucking blow. Yet, the party went on as planned and it was very, very festive. I spent the night of the party in one of their spare bedrooms, and we had lots of girl time together because Lovely’s husband stayed away most of the time. Of course, we were all cordial with him, but we were all seething internally.
Party #2 of The Two Holiday Parties: was Maria’s daughter’s BIG ASS BLACK & WHITE BASH in their HUMUNGOUS MANSION they’d spent three years building and had moved into four months prior. I’d already been to see the place after hearing that Maria had to have a pacemaker put in. I think I told you about it. I think her heart got wonky after 20+ years of abusing Adderall. But that’s not what I wanted to write about! So, the instructions were explicit: the dress code was “black and white festive,” and everyone should ride share to the party because there would be no place to park in the ritziest neighborhood of [former city]. All good. I took a Lyft from Lovely’s to Maria’s lickety-split since they live in adjacent neighborhoods (both hoity-toity). When I tell you this party was over-the-top, as I knew it would be, it was
beyond lavish. Think, white-gloved, passed hors-d’oeuvres and cocktails, literal
fashion models handing out cannoli (the theme of the extravagant Italian party), a dance floor with multiple DJs and saxophone player flown in from NYC, and
dancers with disco balls on their heads! The house not only has a bar off to the side of one of the living rooms, but it also has a SPEAKEASY! When I tell you this was beyond…it was giving Paris Hilton and all her friends hang out with the Real Housewives of New Jersey in a mansion on Long Island. It was an experience to behold! At one point, I think I was making small talk with the next Elon Musk - a tall, handsome super cocky fuck-boy-looking creature who knew everything and seemed to control the room. I mostly hung out with Maria’s friend and the friend’s daughter, who both actually
flew in from New Jersey to attend the event. And they are lovely, wonderful ladies (I even connected with the daughter via IG), but Maria was so busy hostessing and socializing with everyone, and that’s understandable with such a giant soiree. I ended up leaving after about an hour and a half to go back to Lovely’s where I knew I’d at least have a place where I could sit down and relax instead of standing around and trying to talk over the club-like atmosphere.
But I will tell you - the flower brooch was a HIT at both parties!!
I went back to Lovely’s and everyone seemed pretty stoned and mellow, which was great because I could then take off my Louboutin spike-heeled booties that were crippling my feet at that point. I was happy that I was spending the night at Lovely’s because that meant we could all slowly end the party, snacking and chatting in the most casual way. At one point I think I grabbed a blanket and sat outside in front of the fire with some old friends and just soaked it all in. It was good to be back in town with these friends. I’d missed our fun times.
Both parties were so great even though they were so different. I’m soooo glad I was able to attend both of them - and on the same night! Of course, it was exhausting, but it was also exhilarating too! That’s the part of the joy of the holidays that I love.
Okay. Running out of steam. I’m going to have to circle back with my circlebacks. Just writing all that down had me revisiting both parties in my head and now I’m spent!
More to follow…
