Hearing Aids (the sequel) in Life in General

I had my hearing aid appointment again.

When she first fitted me with the new hearing aids, I won’t lie, I felt a little disappointed. They were a little bigger and the music streaming quality felt about the same.

However, I did like the extra controls on the app. One of the major things that bothers me with the current hearing aids is how streaming automatically cuts out background noise around me. Which defeats the purpose of the hearing aids for me. I want to hear the background noise, because that’s what distracts me from the constant EEEEEEEEE ringing I hear 24/7.

Well these new hearing aids offer the option to control how much background noise I have, and honestly so many more sliders I didn’t have time to play with. I like the idea of having more options, but I understand why a lot of hearing aid companies don’t do it. Because hearing aids are more focused on older demographics, who find creative ways to fuck up technology haha. So idiot proofing the app makes sense.

Well anyway I had decided to make the swap to the new hearing aids, regardless of the fact that the streaming quality felt similar (aka still crappy) but right before I handed them back to the doctor, I noticed a button in my phone’s bluetooth options that said “LE Audio (experimental feature) that was toggled off. So I toggled it on, played some music and…

…it was like my world opened up. Suddenly the music didn’t sound like total dogshit. I mean, it doesn’t sound nearly as good my airpods, but it sounded so much better than it did before. Suddenly, it sounds like I’m just listening on cheap headphones with no bass, which is totally fine with me. I know hearing aids won’t sound like real headphones… I was okay with “meh” quality, just not “listening through a ham radio” quality.

So suffice to say, I’m pretty excited for the new hearing aids to show up. I have a fitting scheduled in about 2 weeks so I’ll just twittle my thumbs until then I guess.

In other news, I’ve been trying to stream a little bit of video games again. I’m definitely too old to be doing this, but I figure “hey, while I have free time and I’m coasting on my savings… why the heck not”. So we’ll see how that goes.
