What’s happening? Public radio just told me that crypto is coming. Political candidates who are against it are being attacked. Okkkkkkaaaayyyyy.
I decided a few days ago to give up, to submit, to just wait and see what happens without letting acid eat holes in my stomach. My theory was that since so many of my fellow Americans believe differently than I do, that I should maybe just let them have their way. Maybe they are right and I am wrong. I don’t really think so, but but but but who the fuck knows?
Along with crypto, I hear the department of education is going to be eliminated. I don’t really know what it did - perhaps tried to make schools throughout the country meet certain standards? So then we have the next civil war all the soldiers will have the same reading levels. That sounds like a good idea. I will not fight that.
Meanwhile.
Today was the most beautiful day I’ve seen in a while. We had an intense blue sky and wind and cold temperatures and wet ground from some recent rains. All good things I guess. No mail because it’s Veteran’s Day. Will we still have Veteran’s Day? I assume so. The calendars are already printed.
I drove to one of JIm’s farming sites to bring him home. He had taken the combine over. The combine is such a beast. It’s an IH 1440 - I will check the number with Jim. It’s old and paid for - god I hope - and so far this year has been running pretty good. It’s a little sad. It has the black spot on one side of the metal work from the time it caught fire - combines catch fire pretty easily - so much dry stalks and leaves and the diesel engine in the middle. One corner is bent up pretty seriously from the time the axle broke and the combine kind of fell off its frame. Still it’s running and doing a good job. Wish it luck. Jim rode back with me in the Buick up to Joana’s and picked up one of the tractors - I do not keep very good track of the tractors - there is an old cab on and a newer cab one and three open tractors. All IHs, all brave beasts on their recognizances. He took that tractor to the remote farming clsite and is bringing home two gravity wagon loads of corn he’s already combined. He’s had a call from a neighbor who wants him to combine some of his corn - so that is custom work and while custom work might be a worry, it’s a good thing too.
Side note - in the last few weeks we’ve had a couple inches of much needed rain - several batches of clothes on the clothesline took a while to dry. And it seems that the corn standing in the fields has gained a couple percentage points of moisture from the rain. That’s not good news - the rain is good news, but the wetter corn isn’t. Still we will see what happens. Light bill was two and a half times higher last month for the blower on the corn dryer. That’s ok too.
By the way we are still waiting for the fiber optic hookup. We plan to get a phone through the optic line and I want to call up the coop to see if they have any idea when it will happen. I wouldn’t care but my current landline phone bill has gone from $70 to $90 to $107 in the last six months - I looked at my checking account to see for sure. I want to call and lodge a complaint. In the past I’ve had the bill lowered several times, I don’t want to beg or whine but if .... well you get it. Or don’t. I’m never sure of what I’m doing. I bet we get 50 scam calls for every one legitimate call, and when it rains our phone service is very static-y, almost impossible to use. Our phone died too, but we got a new one at Wal-Mart for $20.
God almighty, I guess you heard all that before.
Waylon Jennings CD was in the car and he sounded good. Lonesome, Ornry and Mean, Ramblin’ Man, Honky Tonk Heros. I might be the only woman in the world, county for sure, who has been in love with Waylon Jennnings and Graham Greene for decades. Six for Greene, four for Jennings. I’m nothing if not loyal.
See you all.
I took a picture of my coleus in bloom but I’m too lazy to see if I can down load it. And then there’s that beautiful sky. Keep it in your imagination.

Weakening the educational system is good for making people complacent and ignorant. They can get all their news from Fox news and not pay any attention to social ills. Be good drones. Oh and maybe they will try religious indoctrination. I am bitter but I think in ways to adapt but also keep my integrity. The USA is more divided than ever. So much for the great uniter ;-)

Hey thanks for the notes. I really like hearing from 'new' people.
Well, old ones too.

I read your stuff. You are level headed and probably another boomer like I am. You have seen and lived a lot of history. You have a better perspective on so much because of that. Cheers, girl ;-)

I personally would not invest in cryptocurrency, ESPECIALLY if you are retired/on a fixed
income. It is unregulated, with a lot of bad actors. I got this little bit of advice from my own financial advisor.
If you're young, have disposable income that you can afford to lose and can accept high risk, then by all means, play the game.

enjoy your beautiful sunny day....sounds like rain is needed for sure and I would have thought it would make corn more tasty and moist. But I guess the corn you grow is not for human consumption!
I know almost nothing about Crypto except its something to do the the internet and hope its not problematic for you all if it arrives there. Their currency is odd too and limited in its use I would imagine....not sure what else is the problem if one doesn't use it anyway.
I am surprised about your mention of education.....Our govt here have basic carriculum guidelines that all state schools use and it is run by a govt department known as Department of Education. Interesting yours is so different.
smiles and hugs p

So much in your note - sometimes I think your country is more like one of our states. We always have conflicts over who is in charge of what. Can and should states make their own decisions. I think that's part of what's up with department of educations. State versus federal. I wonder if we could just turn into fifty separate countries? I know that will never happen and I doubt it would be a good idea - well I know it wouldn't be a good idea.
And yes, our corn is grown for animal feed and sugar and and fuel and plastics and almost everything. It's a commodity, like oil. It has to be of a certain moisture content to keep it from spoiling.
Here's what auto Intel has to say about it:
The ideal moisture content for corn depends on how it will be used:
Harvesting
The ideal moisture content for harvesting corn is between 15–20%. This range balances the risk of field losses with the cost of drying.
Storage
For long-term storage, corn should be dried to a moisture level of 13–15%. This reduces the risk of spoilage and insect infestation.
Processing
For processing purposes, such as milling or ethanol production, corn is often used with a moisture content around 14–15%. This helps to optimize processing efficiency and product quality.
Factors that influence grain drydown rates include temperature, humidity, weather, and grain maturity.
I would pretty much agree. I would add that when it's wet, the farmer has to pay to dry it, so a dry fall is an economic boon and also is good environmentally since propane doesn't have to be used to dry the corn so it will not spoil. The crop itself is so beautiful. I used to think that after everything else is gone there will be an area on earth with a big plastic doom over it to grow corn. It will be the corn museum. Maybe the state of Iowa?

Absolutely no crypto for me.
I share your approach to wait and see what happens. I don't think Trump will find it as easy to do all that he promised. Republicans, as a group, are great at naysaying, not so good at governing/getting anything accomplished.

Good luck to the combine. I hope crypto doesn't get any bigger. Who needs schools when we have a few men to tell us what to do? (Stop taunting us with descriptions of potential photos you won't post.) Our telephone, wifi, and internet costs have gone up quite a lot in the last couple of years. Somehow I thought you were a Waylons fan for much longer that 2019? Read that part over again and now I see you have been a fan of his for four decades not years. Be well.
