Greeneland in These titles mean nothing.

I’ve been spending time with my old idol, love and fellow saint, Graham Greene. Mainly in the second volume of Norman Sherry’s biography.

But here’s a link to Greene’s life as a spy. I guess I aim it anyone who loved LeCarre too. The Brit spy/writers are fascinating. I’ll even include Somerset Maugham in the Trinity. Spell checked capitalized Trinity - I’d prefer lower case.... in this case.

Or maybe you should watch this first. It’s about letters Greene wrote to the woman he LOVED.

Greene was one of the reasons I gave up the Church. The Church capitalized as Evelyn Waugh did in Brideshead Revisited.

Whatever company I’m in is good.

Will’s last football game is now Friday at 2 pm in U.S. Bank Stadium. His team were state champions last year. This year they lost their first two games - but apparently picked up after that. I’ve been to two of his games - the second loss this year and one last year at which **94 ** kids suited up. My main goal is that he doesn’t get hurt - he’s been playing more in the last few games. I am so far from being a football fan, but still – it’s Will.

One thing - or maybe two things - more, about politics.

I oddly enough comforted myself by watching Seinfeld clips. They really helped. I know not why.

I’m now settling into a sort of complacency. I have not understood how anyone - let alone almost 75 million to almost 71 million - supported him. But now I think I’ll just let things go and see now the next four years turn out. - shrug - Maybe I’ve been wrong about everything. Guess we’ll just have to see what happens.

I’m going to look forward to all the things that will get better under the new administration with its support from Congress and how much stronger our state governments will be. Iowa passes a law every year to make guns more available and schools less so. I wonder how far they can go.

I love Travels with my Aunt. Do you have a suggestion for what I should read next? I also love John le Carre (or at least the Smiley ones). I was talking with my mom, a Tr*mp supporter, and said, "Well, maybe he'll do something about daylight savings time."

I love your mom.
The Heart of the Matter - is great.
The End of the Affair - is also considered one of his best - I haven't read it in a long time.
The Quiet American is about Vietnam.
The Human Factor - is very good.
The Burned Out Case - is one I've been looking for.
The Power and the Glory - of course
I read him in high school - I liked his Catholic theory combined with free thinking. He lived an exciting life and a lot of his life is in his fiction.
I have a quote of his - “It's a strange thing to discover and to believe that you are loved when you know that there is nothing in you for anybody but a parent or a God to love.”

I hope Will isn't injured in the last game of the year, not that there is any good time to have an injury. You know a lot about football. You'll be able to tell Will what he did really well.

I know life is full of danger and I usually don't worry about things happening. Maybe I can believe my mother who saves us from car accidents can keep an eye on him.

I love Brideshead Revisited. It has been awhile since I read Greene. Glad you are enjoying him. Health and wellbeing to Will.

you would love the bookstore I visited today...I generally avoid bookstores (library loans are free) and I remembered why I avoid them when I spent $57 on two books...smiles; However my purchases were not classics, nor novels of course.

I rarely buy new books. I love used ones - they were chosen by people before me and have a history.

gypsy spirit woman in the moon ⋅ November 11, 2024

thats how I feel about old houses too...much nicer than new modern ones.

woman in the moon gypsy spirit ⋅ November 11, 2024

What books did you buy?

gypsy spirit woman in the moon ⋅ November 12, 2024

you won't know of them, not fiction.
One is by a NZ woman I knew years ago and is called 'AROHA'.....(I plan to write an entry about it soon), it shares some NZ Maori Wisdom. The second book which I tried reading yesterday arvo is very quirky and I thought it would be fun light reading but find it much weirder than expected...it is called 'LITTLE WEIRDS' by a Jenny Slate (a UK publication).
I am delighted with the AROHA book however. hugs p
