I am in parvo quarantine.
No, wait, I am the parvo queen.
Same thing.
We have two parvo positive patients. One was the emergency from Sunday. The baby vet from our sister clinic was on call last week with me. She called to let me know that the dog was on its way to the clinic.
“You go on and get set up. When they get there go ahead and run a parvo test on him. Just remember, swab the mouth then the booty. If you do it the other way, well that’s just rude.”
Haha! I love her.
So never go ass to mouth applies to vet med also. Good to know.
His test popped positive so fast. I went out to tell the owner.
“But…the breeder said he gave him his vaccinations already.”
Those are the two words that people in vet med LOVE to hear.
If you must go to a breeder (please stop, though), never trust their “vaccinations”. They are from the farm store. They have no idea what they are doing. Plus, how were those vaccines handled? Did they get warm? Are they expired? Are they even the correct vaccines?
Just go to the vet.
We will start the vaccine series over.
Your animal will be fine.
Trust me.
Get your fucking animal vaccinated.
Please.
Anywho, off my soap box.
We were really worried about the puppy. He was only 12 weeks old and looked extremely dumpy.
Monday morning, I stood at the door to the clinic for a second, preparing myself to walk in and find a dead puppy.
I finally opened the door and the smell of parvo hit me square in the face.
Fuuuuuuuuck.
I peeked around the corner and , to my surprise, there were puppy eyes blinking back at me.
He was alive! Yay! He had made a HELL of a mess but he was alive.
I cleaned him up, medicated him and we were rocking and rolling again.
He went home today.
Yesterday, before he was slated to go home today, another parvo positive dog came in.
Then there were two.
And for some reason I was assigned to them.
This means I can touch no other young pet , just in case.
See? Quarantine.
I have more, but I’m tired and ready to go home for the day.
