I suppose we are close to winter now, in the early hours of Sunday morning we moved from British Summer Time and were on GMT once more; Sweetheart said in a falling vice “Will it’s winter now” I think we still have a few weeks of autumn yet, it hasn’t been a great autumnal season, perhaps I could come all Cornish and say it has been a ‘soft’ autumn.
Here it is Monday morning, I’ve taken the bins down to the road side, over that few yards to the road the drive drops six or seven feet, looking straight ahead I can see a spray of small white flowers blooming along a branch, and as I descend the flowers are lost to me, and as near the road there are red berries along the bow.
It may not be the grand blooming of spring, but it has its own beauty in a smaller scale, easing us between summer and winter. For now we have the lighter mornings, but the dusk that came just after six is now with us on the dot of five!
Our shops are not sure what they should lead with, the ghoul’s and ghosts of Halloween are not as popular here as they are across the pond, the fireworks have a short season; Bonfire Night on the fifth of November! Come the sixth there will be no juggling with plastic Bats and files of make believe blood, nor the bangers and rockets getting in the way; then it will be Christmas stacked high all the way.
