Vegas Recovery in These Foolish Things

I honestly thought I’d be writing at least 100 words a day during my trip to Vegas, but no. And it’s not like there really wasn’t time, I just couldn’t find it in me to write anything. Is that good or bad? I don’t know.

But here’s a little bulleted recap:

  • Flight to Vegas on Tuesday was delayed four hours due to a broken plane. Thanks, Mercury Retrograde.
  • Once they found us a new plane (apparently came in from Mexico or somesuch), Martini and I arrived in Vegas around 8pm and tried to pick up badges for Head Cat, Goldie Cat and myself. Unfortunately, nowhere on the paperwork did it say I had to have everyone’s photo ID, so I could only pick mine up
  • It was funny to be standing in the lobby of the Mandalay Bay and to hear someone across the other side yell, “MARTINIIIII!!” It was a former co-worker I hadn’t seen in a few years. Always so fun to see peeps away from home. And funny to know that they recognize and yell for the dog and not me!
  • Arrived at hotel (stayed at the Vdara, which is a beautiful non-casino hotel - highly recommend) and in room by 11pm. Looked out the window and onto the most stunning view of the Las Vegas strip, the Bellagio Fountains, the SPHERE (which I’d never seen before since I hadn’t been to Vegas in six years), the High Roller ferris wheel, the Eiffel Tower…and on and on. Literal picture-perfect views!
  • Brunch in the morning with Head Cat and Goldie Cat. First time meeting Goldie Cat in person. She talks too much and too fast, but she is a genuine sweetheart and I adore her. Head Cat, on the other hand, was in diva form. We had to meet him at the Wynn for the fancy-ass buffet that prides itself in vegan choices and Head Cat turned his nose up saying he couldn’t eat anything there. I’d pre-paid for this event, but I still asked if he wanted to go somewhere else, and he was about to say yes when, thankfully, we were able to have a word with the chef who created some special dishes for him. Ughhh.
  • The show was more of the same…making sure Head Cat got to his appearances on time and he was prepped and ready. There were times between appearances when he’d literally try to sneak away from Goldie Cat and me!! What the fuck, man? And Goldie Cat left me alone with him at 2:30 because she needed to go home and do some things (she actually lives in Vegas), so I was left to babysit Head Cat and wrangle my dog at the same time, ha!!
  • And YES, I knew what I was getting myself into!
  • Wednesday evening dinner with Head Cat at a vegan place off the strip - it was a hole in the wall and shockingly delicious!
  • Second day was just me and Head Cat. More wrangling. Only this time, in addition to making appearances, he also snuck off from time to time to do Cameos (you know, those personalized video messages that celebrities do for a buck). Luckily, we got through all of that and a sound check for some other stuff and I got him on his way to catch a PJ to his next destination. Whew!
  • That left me with really only a half day to do my REAL job, but whatevs
  • Thursday night dinner with C (NOT “C.” with a period), my friend from my old, old job. She’s the one I used to travel all over the place with, including several biz trips to China, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect evening, though a lot more mellow than in years past. We sort of snuck away from the crowds and had a quiet dinner and then sort of tangled ourselves back INTO the crowds and walked the strip a bit and took pics and acted like a couple of long-lost buddies…because we were! It was so nice to see her and I loved our time together!
  • Friday I decided that I wanted to have more of a chill day with Head Cat out of my hair, so I took a leisurely walk in the morning with the dog while it was still cool (I did that every morning since the temps in the afternoons got into the 104+ range), and took my sweet time checking out of the hotel, got to the show, wandered around a bit, had a couple meetings and lunch and got some good contacts and then it was time to head to the airport
  • Because of the time zones, I finally made it home at 11pm on Friday
  • Saturday and Sunday were for laundry and lounging, heh

And now I’m back to the real world. It’s the end of the workday and I am simply trying to catch back up. Lots to do and Kitty Cat wants to have a big meeting with me tomorrow! I need to be prepared so I need to have some thoughts together. I’m going to take the dog for a walk, call mom and dad, and figure it out.

Missed you!
