Martini's 10th Birthday in These Foolish Things

Sunday morning!
Yesterday, we celebrated Martini’s 10th Birthday. I swear, that dog is nearly the most important part of my life.
Had a genuine tiny party. I decorated the kitchen with banners and a big “10” balloon! I made dog treats and my popcorn treats (I’ll send you the recipe, Tigressa!), made a little bar for my non-alcoholic margaritas (they were delicious)! and a whole spread of chips and dips and a cheese board and cupcakes! A whole grazing table that even the dogs enjoyed.
And when I say tiny party, I mean it. Four people and one dog showed up, but that’s a perfect entree back into entertaining. I’ve missed it a lot.
Martini LOVED all of the attention. I loved it too!
I got to know a couple of my neighbors better - there’s a woman who lives the next building over and just lost her last foster fail (the sweetest ol’ bulldog that clearly had a lot of medical problems), and she’s fascinating. Her partner lives in the apartment next door and I think that is the perfect scenario and she does too.
My lesbian crush and her wife showed up!! These two give off such good energy that I can’t not be revitalized after spending an hour with them. And they said they are going to try to set me up with some straight men through some of their straight friends in their new neighborhood.
And another neighbor showed up with her dog, Winston…who promptly pooped and peed on my rugs, sending Martini into a pee frenzy, so she had to re-mark her own territory!! Ugh, I don’t recommend an INDOOR dog party! But I have all of the cleaning stuff, so everything was fine!
Funny enough, Winston is having his own 1st birthday party in my neighborhood dog park today, so Martini and I will show up in about 30 minutes from now.
And what a disappointment from my “friend” C. and his suicidal brother, I. Uncles C. and I. promised to show, but true to their form, sent a message at noon (the party was from 12-3) telling me that they were driving back from [city that’s 3 hours away] saying that they’d be back around 4 and asked if I was really going to end the party at the posted time of 3???
I answered back simply, “Yes.”
Am I the asshole?
Funny enough, L.C. and her wife stayed until 5 and I couldn’t have been happier, but C. and I. have been so unavailable and dodgy with their times lately that I just didn’t want to deal with them. It bums me out because I do love C. as a friend (not so much I., but he loves Martini so much), and I’m sad to be essentially losing a good friend like this. We have drifted almost completely apart. I’m not giving up, but I’m not wasting energy either…
Anyway, I had a wonderful time and Martini was wiped out by the end of the day. Now I have SO MUCH FOOD!! I’m going to wrap my popcorn treats into a plastic gift bag and bring it to Winston’s dog party…
Wish y’all were here!

I’ve learnt indoor dog parties aren’t a good idea. :)
