Don’t you just love the “blue October” days? The sky is such a brilliant color. The golden aspen trees contrast against the sky and among the pines. Such is Colorado this week.
Rhonda and Mitch got here late Saturday afternoon. Mike and Jeri took us all out for Mexican food.
Sunday Rhonda and Mitch went up to Longmont for lunch with his sister, but came back early. I had fixed a pork roast and squash for supper and we finished eating just in time to watch the Broncos’ game.
We drove up Bear Creek Canyon with Rhonda and Mitch on Monday. It was a beautiful drive and not much traffic. Stopped at O’Fallon Park and let the dogs have some fun playing and finding hundreds of things to sniff. Then we went on up to Evergreen and lingered over a late lunch at the Hiwan Golf Course. A leisurely drive around the elk meadow rewarded us with a view of a small herd of peaceful elk grazing…guess the Rut is past. What a great day. Topped it off by meeting Mike and Jeri for a pizza supper.
Tuesday our guests took us along to Thorton where we met one of Rhonda’s school friends for lunch and rememberings. This lady grew up a block from us in North Dakota and we were pretty good friends with the whole family. Was great to spend an hour or so with her. But we had to get back because they had tickets to the Av’s hockey game.
Sadly, they had to head back to Montana the next morning. They left about nine for the long drive home. My housekeeper showed up at 9:30 and Bob and I had to find something to do for an hour. We ran a few errands and then took a drive around this end of town, over past our old house and neighborhood, talking about things we passed and remembering when we used to go down this street or that street and what we did there. It was really a nice time together.
Yesterday was a sad day for us as we had to attend the memorial service for a friend who died as a result of a house fire last week. He was in Bob’s Kiwanis club and also my writing group. Really nice guy. What an awful way to die. But God works in mysterious ways. The man has been fighting cancer for awhile now and we heard that his oncologist had told the family that he probably only had five months to live. Maybe this was better.
