So… Monday, I didn’t have a working computer because I.T. fucked up and prevented our ENTIRE Attorney’s Office from accessing ANY of our work product.
A fuck up that lasted the entire day on Monday.
Tuesday morning, I returned to the office with great hopes. Alas, I.T. had still not fixed the fuck up. So, Tuesday morning was also a morning without access to my computer.
Then remember Thursday? And how attempting to review a single case took me all afternoon. Setting me even further behind at work?

WELL, I was one of the first people at the office this morning. Friday, July 19, 2024. And ran into a blue screen saying the computer could not start. I… have hearings FIRST THING in the morning. Time to investigate! Apparently, about 75% of our computers were fucked. So… hearings without a computer it is! At those hearings, I am told the problem is affecting 0% of our judges, and roughly half of our corrections. We struggle through and about 2 hours later, I go back to my office.

When things get… even more fucked up.

My computer is completely gone. Gone. No longer in my office. Well… shit. I track it down. While I was in my hearings, they just had someone turn it off and turn it back on repeatedly. So, I investigate further. Apparently, I am now the only attorney in the office whose computer is still fucking up. So, we need to call I.T. But… we have a different laptop you can probably use. *Okay, let’s do that!”

So at about 10:50… a full 3 hours since I got to work… let’s try to sign into this computer that we at least know WILL BOOT UP!

Type in name… type in password… and....
We can’t sign you in with this credential because your domain isn’t available. Make sure your device is connected to your organization’s network and try again. If you previously signed in on this device with another credential, you can sign in with that credential.

So… no computer… no access to backup computer or the work network. I have been at work (at THIS writing) for FOUR HOURS and have not been able to access or use a computer. DO YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT GETTING FURTHER BEHIND AT WORK?!?! And it isn’t like the judges can or will say “No worries!” They will say, “Due to the State’s failure to be prepared we are finding against the State.”

We finally got the backup computer up and running so that I can access e-mail and the internet. But not the work network. Which means, actually, that I cannot do anything work related because I still can’t access anything work related. My normal computer, of course, is still gone. Which is of significant importance not only because that computer CAN access the network. But because that computer has everything I need to do my job. Yes, much of it is backed up on the network (again.. I would need a computer that can access the network) but not all of it. And there just… isn’t a consensus on whether I will ever even seen that computer again. So, really, as far as WORK and COMPUTERS and EVER CATCHING UP AGAIN… I’m just feeling.... very very fucked. So as the day ends… with no access and no computer… I’ll just sign off. And pray for better technology news next week!!!

With twenty minutes left in the day, my computer was returned to me fixed and ready to go. WHICH IS GOOD. Not going to overlook that! But… after (looks at imaginary watch) approximately 20 working hours without access to my computer this week? But still required to go to Court, be in my office… look like I could work if I had the proper tools… I just… I’m not inclined to break myself for twenty minutes trying to salvage something out of this bullshit day. I’ll be downright SUNK next week in all the backlog. Absolutely panicked and fucked to be direct about it. But I’m not going to have a heart attack trying to cram in as much as possible in the last twenty minutes on a Friday when the best I’ve been able to manage as far as Computer Work was making sure I noted whether I had a new e-mail or not.
