I am in Sacramento…. Arrived today.
I heard the Popsicle truck in a distance, getting closer and closer. But never stopping. Then it came down this street. It was going a wee faster than I remember. It doesn’t seem to be a popular thing these days.
When I was a kid the Popsicle Truck came everyday. It traveled slowly up and down the roads. Stopping often. I didn’t buy a Popsicle often but when I did it was either a Push-up which was orange Sherbet and vanilla ice cream or I got the Missile that had similar favors swirled with a few more flavors.
When I didn’t buy one I had Popsicles my mother made from Kool-Aid. My favorite was raspberry, so yummy.!
I remember sometimes my mother would charge the neighborhood kids $.10 for one of our Kool-Aid Popsicles. There was a family that lived Kiddy Corner from us. He was a pastor of a church. One time the ice cream man was coming down the road and they all got an ice cream, the mother paid for ice cream for me too. I remember her daughter saying isn’t she going to pay you for the ice cream? We have to pay for ice cream at her house. Funny the things you remember.
The other thing I am reminded today of……
Mid 90’s to 105 the whole 10 days I am here and NO air conditioning. Yep, it is a wee warm. I did order a fan which will arrive tomorrow. There are fans here but them are embedded with Nicotine Dust. . I may be forced to use one of them tonight.
Growing up, we had a swamp cooler. I don’t know if we had other fans. I remember it was rough going to sleep at night. My mom does have a window air conditioner, but that’s only for that room. In the future, I think May would be a good time to come. Not sweltering hot yet so in July, I knew what I was getting myself into….. UGG.
One thing for sure this kind of weather and no air really makes you appreciate home.
