Grotty in Stuff

I’ve picked up a nasty little bug from somewhere. So annoying. Very phlegmy. Gross. The cough is the worst part. Naturally, me being worrier-me, I took one of my tests right away. No lines appeared. Until I checked it at the cut-off time and one of the lines is on the very edge of the test in the RSV column. Not against any of the letters on the cassette in any of the columns. Ergh, what does that mean? A faulty test, I assume. Either way, thank God it’s not Covid again so soon.
I had to google what RSV means - a respiratory infection, so if that’s that, that would make sense.
It’s been enough for me to call in sick to work. Or rather, I tried to, twice. As per usual, there was no answer, even after I knew the store was open. I ended up texting my ASM saying I wasn’t coming in. The irony of me working with Covid and not working with whatever this is, go figure.
It’s not often I call in sick, and I have plenty of personal leave, so may as well use it. I just feel a lot more cough-y and gross with this. I’ve also called in sick for tomorrow. I figured I might as well. I will need a medical certificate for more than one consecutive day off, but I’m booked in tomorrow to see my doctor anyway, not only for this, but to get my psychologist report as well.
May as well kill two birds with one stone. I’ll get him to extend my mental health plan and to write me a medical certificate. Maybe some drugs for whatever this shit is while he’s at it. I don’t think the home remedies are cutting it. I’m not better and probably won’t be. I don’t know if I got this from a customer, or if it was because the gym was out of wipes that one day and I risked it (probably), or if it was because there was a huge fire a few suburbs over. I may have been breathing in smoke during my sleep for all I know. I’ve got the windows closed tonight. I’m on all the teas and the soups, and the fruits and the pills and the Sambucol and the breathing-in-steams. I just don’t like feeling grotty like this.
My housemate had to take an online exam, again, which meant he couldn’t have anyone in the background or talking. I was like, ‘umm, I’m sick, soz’ but decided to head out anyway, since I hadn’t left the apartment all fucking day as I’ve been in bed resting up. I decided to get some ramen from the Japanese place. Jebus - $35 just for some soup with a few things in it. Is everyone a drug dealer except me? What is everyone doing to afford eating out all the time? Still, it was okay. I had a muffin for dessert afterward, although that probably wasn’t good for me. It was nice to see all the Newstead gym guys in their shorts, despite it being like 10 degrees Celcius. Fuck that. I was in my thick hoodie and pants. It’s currently dropped to 9 degress as I write this. I think that’s the coldest yet. Not helping my grogginess, but I have the heater on.
So it’ll be nice to have an extended break from work, although I can’t really enjoy it too much until I feel better. I’ll see what the doc says tomorrow.
