Just political bullshit in Stuff

I absolutely love being Australian. But I absolutely refuse to even acknowledge the fuckheads “running” this country’s government at the moment.
I certainly didn’t vote them in. My cries of “Don’t do it!”, “You’ll be sorry” and “Are you crazy?” prior to the election (in response to my friends even considering voting the current liberal government in) were ignored.
I remember posting Sideshow Bob’s evil laugh from The Simpsons when Tony Abbott was voted in.
I can’t even begin to cover the amount of times our current Prime Minister has offended or pissed me off personally. I can’t speak for the Australian public, but hey, they voted him in so they can’t really care too much.
Me bitching about my country’s current government isn’t anything new, really. I try not to be too political, as it is pretty boring, but I just keep being given new material to work with. I feel like we’ve even overtaken the U.S.A’s version of George ‘Dubbya’ Bush.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a new reality TV show began production soon - “Who Wants To Be The Australian Prime Minister?”
If I wasn’t already convinced that ASIO is watching my every move, that Indonesia is pissed off with us for tapping their President’s phone line (our PM is there at the moment for the fourth time this year - doing damage control as far as I’m concerned), that our PM is deeply homophobic despite having a lesbian sister - “I’ll do the right thing, and bring a gift” (yep, he said that in response to being asked how he felt about his sister being engaged to her partner), that banning the Burqa at Parliament House because they are seen as a security issue, that our current PM has threatened to “shirtfront” the Russian president when he arrives in my city next month… (I could go on forever with these things, really) then the announcement a few days ago is a good enough reason to reinstate for about the bazillionth time that the people ‘running’ our country are a bunch of fucking morons.
Yep. Take a look at the latest official poster released to prevent “boat people” from coming here.
I live on the only place in the world that is all three - Country, Continent and Island. We have a great way of life here, if you choose to ignore the completely offensive people currently running it (oh and being double and triple-taxed for everything).
The current system for Asylum seekers is they are intercepted before reaching shore. I’m not exactly sure how this is effectively done, given the vast expanse of how huge the Australian coastline is right around. The asylum seekers are then sent to Christmas Island/Nauru, where the conditions appear to be inhumane. I can’t even write about this properly, knowing humans who were only seeking a better way of life are basically being treated as hardened criminals :(
One guy was even killed at Nauru. It’s reported others have sewn their lips together. It’s SO hard to get factual details, and I feel like the only way SOME news has gotten through is because of freedom of information laws, and that was that conditions are absolutely terrible. The immigration minister, whenver questioned about it, just doesn’t seem to even give a shit.
And the government tells the Australian public that there have been no boats arrive since they were voted into power. Funny that, when one of the first things the government did was introduce a new LAW preventing the media from reporting the arrival of asylum seeker boats.
So dodgy. So fucking dodgy.
Luckily, I feel like the most of Australians aren’t complete and utter morons with the wool pulled over their eyes. I’m sure that heaps of boats make it past the coastguards. I’d like to think so anyway. I just think that asylum seekers should be treated like humans.
I never even once thought growing up, as a happy little vegemite kid, that I’d be here in my 30’s, concerned that we’ve voted someone into government who appears to be the laughingstock of the worldwide political landscape.
The G20 is here next month, and pretty much every major world leader and their crews will be here. All the hotels are booked out. Apparently blood can’t even be kept in the inner city hospitals whilst it is on. I don’t really understand that at all. I just heard it has to be transferred out to suburban hospitals. Too bad if you’re about to die it seems!
There will be snipers around. It’s not very comforting when we’ve got a Prime Minister saying stupid shit to the Russian President and offending the Indonesian President within months of each other.
I just have to try and remain my positive, usual happy self, which is me whenever I pretend I don’t live in the current Political-time-frame that I do. What makes me feel worse is my state’s Premier is just as pathetic and homophobic as my country’s leader is. I met him once during the floods. He shook everyone’s hand there, except mine. I guess I was too gay for him to acknowledge LOL. My brother has worked with him and reckons he just won’t listen to anyone, as it’s his way or the highway. I guess that makes sense, being ex-army. He’s already trying to change to the safe Labor seat of Moggil because he has no chance of keeping his current one. The Labor MP holding that seat was fired last week, ironically.
America, I now know how you felt. Please have pity on me and everyone else who didn’t vote for the LNP.
Sorry for the political post, but thanks for reading. Just needed to vent. I’m sure ASIO will be here to drag me away any minute.
