Big... Big Surf in Talk Story

I went down to the beach this morning… incredibly big surf… this was the headline in the local newspaper:

“Surf along the Curry County coastline is expect to jump to 12 to 15 feet by 3 p.m today (Oct. 11), with the possibility of dangerous sneaker waves as high as 18 feet, posing a danger to unwary beachgoers, the National Weather Service has advised.
Additionally, the weather will not be stormy, giving people a false sense that conditions are safe.

The weather alert indicates the waves will occur from the border with California north to Florence.

Sneaker waves start out far at sea and grow as they approach land. West swells are expected to be about 6 feet in height starting early, and increase to about 12 feet by late this afternoon. Breaker heights are expected to approach 18 feet in height.

Sneaker waves are sudden, unexpected waves that reach farther up the beach than normal. They can catch beachcombers by surprise and sweep them out to sea. Additionally, even the smallest waves can be enough to roll large logs and driftwood up the beach, potentially catching people between them and other logs on the beach.”
