Why is waking up on a Monday morning so much easier in NYC?
Out with the sun hat and lotion again today. We are walking the highline. It’s the sight of an old railway line that has been turned into a garden and sits above the city. It was so interesting looking at the different kinds of flora and fauna. Oh and the people watching. You could even see into some apartments from that level (stalker much). I think we probably spent about 90 minutes strolling along. Then it was off to lunch at the Chelsea market. I had a lobster roll, which was kind of spendy (about 20 bucks with a drink), but hey it isn’t every day I get to eat lobster. Being a group of three helped with securing a table in the small space (one could hold the table while the other two got lunch). Next time I would try one of their chowders – they all looked great – and at around $7.00 seemed quite reasonable.
Then it was cab time again – and we were off to a quilting store. Gini is a big time quilter and it was the one thing on her list. I can’t sew to save myself but I did enjoy seeing all the different fabrics. They had a lot of really cool New York themed stuff but I still couldn’t convince myself that I could make anything useful. From there we walked to Fish’s Eddy, which was a store someone had suggested. They had some really cool souvenir type stuff (although primarily they are a china store). I got a couple of pieces featuring the New York skyline – and only Seinfeld fans will get this – a plate to put your dishwashing sponge on that says “sponge worthy” hahaha.
Then it was another walk to the subway station – always further than it looked on the map. On they way we passed an Old Navy, I just had to “pop” in. Their clearance was great, and I got an Old Navy sweatshirt and a t-shirt that says New York City. The sweatshirt was an investment – we were going on the ferry across to Staten Island and for some reason I thought I might be cold (I wasn’t). The plan was to have dinner over there (the ferry ride is free, and you get some great photo ops of the Statue of Liberty) When we got there it didn’t seem like a good option for dinner, so we finished up back on the ferry, then on the subway to Times Square. I didn’t like it any better at night time (in case you are wondering). Just too much going on. We finally decided to have dinner at Olive Garden – yes you Americans can roll your eyes but I love that stuff. Free breadsticks –why yes please. I had a special which was some kind of prawn and tomato thing. Loved it. Finally “home” at about 11.30pm – Our longest day so far.
