Liquid squid? in A small but passable life.

Ah . . . but we seem to be wandering here . . .

Liquid squid. Think about that for a minute or so.

Anyway. Life goes on.

Jassy received a package from her Grandmother today. A cookbook and printouts of family recipes. And a phone card for me.

For the last couple of weeks it has been too warm to spend the days in the van so I’ve been walking over to the student union after my coffee in the morning. I sit and read the local paper and the New York Times and then settle in with my book. I wander on back to the apartment about supper time. I bring the papers with me. There’s quite a stack of newspapers in Jassy’s dining room now.

We haven’t figured out exactly what is wrong with the van. We haven’t needed to drive it so it has been sitting with a full tank of gas. It runs, but something is still not right with it. Necessity will force us to solve the problem. Eventually.

I’ve been reading Hunter Thompson. Are there any gonzo reporters today? Is the stupidity of today’s political scene gone far beyond even the effort of reporting of how fucking crazy things have gotten?

It is true though, that living in this city composed of over 98% white folks is kind of like living in a bubble, compared to most of the rest of the country. There’s not much going on here. White people are pretty placid. The revolution won’t start here.

The wifi was working fine here at Hardee’s last night. It’s not working at all tonight. Oh well, there’s always another night.

Jassy, Liam and I went to the farmer’s market last Saturday. I bought some elderberry jelly. Jassy bought vegetables. Liam got petted by multitudes of little kids. In two weeks when the food stamps get recharged we’re going to buy meat. Buffalo and pork chops and maybe some chicken. The meat in the grocery store is getting more disgusting every day. And more expensive. I wish we could find a source for raw milk.

Jassy has found a dehydrator and has been running it 24/7. Amish tomatoes and peppers until we get enough to last the winter. Her psilocybin mushrooms are going gangbusters. It took her forever to get those buggers going. I’ve re-potted all her houseplants and they’re doing very well. We’re going to try to get the herb garden going again. The first one didn’t make it. Live and learn. Or plant and learn?

Anyway, I’m going to call it an early night. The night-time temperatures are perfect for sleeping now so I’m really enjoying my sack time.
