It been only since April since I last wrote, so perhaps it’s time for an update. :-)

June through August, I was a paid staff for the local kids organization. We had different, eclectic activities, started (and almost finished) a garden, evaluated a move to a new building, and had field trips to the Pueblo Zoo, swimming pools, an overnight camping trip, and ended with a trip to Walsenburg’s ‘Wild Waters’ water park. But now, school is back in session, so it’s homework time again!

Had a nephew get married in PA last May, and a niece got hitched earlier this month. They’re the first of the family’s next generation to tie the knot(s), so congrats to them all!

Yesterday we finished the 2014 potato harvest. To me, it’s fascinating to learn how the spuds are planted, grown, and harvested, and to be part of this part of the food chain. I got to drive the 1985 Chevy Kodiak, big, ol’ harvest truck again, and we had a great team working together. A good boss and lead persons ‘don’t hoit’, and I hope to be part of next year’s operation, too!

Just before the harvest, I made a quick trip to Rifle to pick up an Allis-Chalmers model “CA” for an acquaintance in Missouri. I borrowed a trailer from my shop landlord, drove to Rifle via Leadville that night…and thought about the railroad-related memories I’d had from prior visits to that area. The Colorado Midland, the Rio Grande, Minturn, Locomotive 844’s excursion over Tennessee Pass…I gotta get back there again!

And…I’ve moved to Monte Vista! I’d been spending a lot of time in town, and commuting from Del Norte took a lot of time and gasoline.

It’s good to be a ‘local’.
