Monday the rain was unrelenting. We strategized to get out of the office without hitting flooded roads. It took me an hour to get home, and my suburb was flash flooding as I pulled into my apartment complex. The intersection half a mile away was under water, a pond had flooded into the parking lot, and the grassy low area I walk Sheppy in had almost a foot of water in it. We did not go book shopping. We hunkered down and listened to the rain and stayed dry. I took half a Flexeril and a Tramadol at work and was alarmingly not sleepy. My back was very, very unhappy.
Tuesday was more rain. Less flash flooding, but it took me an hour and fifteen minutes to get home. It’s less than 20 miles. Half a Flexeril, three Advil, that works. Aaron and I went shopping and came away with a devotional. I’ll keep you posted. We were also quite fussy all night. Devotionals and vulnerability are scary.
Wednesday I rushed to get home (almost an hour again) in a huge lightning storm. After lightning cracked right overhead as Sheppy peed, I drove the 100 yards to the fitness center. I cracked out 45 minutes on the treadmill, and went astonishingly slow because halfway through, the twitching muscle below my rib cage erupted into the sharp, stabbing cramps I haven’t had in a long time. It took about 10 minutes to walk that out. No Flexeril that day. Mistake noted.
Thursday I had Flexeril. It was nice. I took a nap and did late evening yoga, which was really nice. I have a lot to do in my core and shoulders. Ouch.
Friday was dryer, sort of. The rain was offshore. I got to work in only 18 minutes, which is unprecedented, and I had THREE free lunches of which two are in my fridge. We had an office meeting and I got to buy deli sandwiches for everyone on the company credit card. Aaron came to visit and surprised me with food, too. I had Flexeril and everything was awesome, and traffic was hideous on the way home. As it happens. I took a very awesome nap before making potatoes and going to Aaron’s place for steak night with his siblings. We had a good cuddly night.
Saturday I have woken up at 8:30 and was well-rested and happy to be in bed after sunrise for once. I cuddled up to Aaron and we got up at 9 in order to get my car to the dealership by 9:30. I brought a jacket, because it was windy, cool, and sunless. We got breakfast, I deposited two paychecks (!!), and then we went downtown. He brought me to the spot where he proposed, only in the daylight. Another couple was taking engagement photos, and a couple was taking wedding photos, and Aaron reenacted our engagement, but our powers combined did not summon Bill Murray.
On the walk there, I found one of our major contractors, and right outside, face up, glinting in weak sunlight and wedged between cobblestones, was a bright shiny quarter. This was not a coincidence.
We walked along the harbor, sat in swinging benches and watched the ferries, I declared war on the bridge, drove along the battery, and finally moseyed our way back out of town. The weather was gray, drizzly, cool, and windy, but it was a really, really, really nice time.
(Then we got home and I raged about idiot sports/university stuff for way too long before flouncing off to cuddle.)
I’ve just gotten my car back. The dealership did me good. Penguin is a happy Subaru now with new drive belts, gas cap, and a sun visor on special order. I sat in the brand new Legacy model, the upgrade from my 08, and was impressed. On the drive home, I was surfing radio stations and heard a song from a 90s Christian boy band. I flailed a little bit and am full of warm fuzzies, because zomg. I am now talking to Jessica before I go run. No Flexeril today and I feel fine, soo… fingers crossed?
Must run. Must defeat bridge. Must fit in wedding dresses. Must assuage vanity.
