I’m still making them.
I sent an email this morning to a registered teacher with the Japan Temari Association to start the process of becoming certified. It’s about a decade of study to becoming a master, which I may or may not do, but I can easily complete the two lower levels, and I suspect I can handle level 3, which would give me a teaching certificate.
I participated in the juried art show in September 2023. It was a tad bit overwhelming with the sheer number of people in attendance. I didn’t realize that most people bring along a helper, so I might consider that this year. Because yes, I’m going to apply again this year.
I also did the regular craft show in November, with my friend Jess, that I’ve been doing for a few years now. This year that show is moving to a juried format as well and she’s completed our application, so we’re hoping that we get selected for that show. It’s a multi-weekend show with over 70 vendors each weekend, so I suspect we’ll get in without any problems.
I also did an evening show in early December. I sold a few temari that evening, although the bulk of them were to people that I know, who could buy from me at any time.
Want to see some recent ones?
I made so many custom order swirl ones in 2023. I don’t think I’m going to accept custom orders anymore, instead trying to make more than I typically do and when I’m sold out, I’m sold out.
The Japan Temari Association is publishing a book later this year, showcasing temari made by members from outside of Japan. This was one of my submissions.
I hated making this one, but I like how it looks, so I’ll likely make it again.
This was an exercise in patience. It didn’t look right until I was finishing the last stitches.
Last one for now, because it also includes Maggie. I didn’t like this pattern either. Haha! But this photo is another one I submitted for consideration for the book.
Two entries for 2024 and both in the first month! Go me!!
