Pretty scary stuff in Adventures in paradise

It’s almost like I could see this coming.
A few days ago, the bins were closed off in my city’s central train stations. They have been covered with cardboard with signs attached saying ‘Take your rubbish with you.”
Then today, there’s news of terror plots being spoiled in both Sydney and Brisbane. The terror plot supposedly involved plucking a random member from the public, beheading them on video, draping them with an Islamic flag and sending the video back to the Middle East.
It’s some fucking gruesome shit, right?
And we have to take stuff like this seriously. I’ve seen all sorts of people freaking out on social media over this today, and a select view others are more skeptical. The few others believe that this ‘terror plot’ is complete bullshit and it’s just our government using scaremongering to entice Australians to support them in sending our troops overseas.
I don’t know what to believe anymore. What do I think?
I’ve always been of the belief that what the mainstream media (ie the tv news) is accurate in their storage coverage. I would hate for something as serious as this to end up not being real.
I’m probably looking too far into it.
I’ve already been pretty nervous ever since I found out the G20 Summit is being held here shortly. Not only that, but I live in the middle of the exclusion zone.
If you go to the valley at night, the police presence has increased majorly, and we are still about two months away from the event.
As mentioned before, the bins have been closed off for safety reasons (because, you know, covering them with cardboard will totally keep the public safe!). There are rules in place during the G20, such as you can’t be carrying eggs or glass bottles on you (well there goes MY grocery shopping!), as well as a heap of other things I don’t remember. The police and Secret Service don’t even need a reason to arrest you.
It’s completely screwed.
It’s even rumoured that our Premier is offering inner-city residents $200 each to fuck off out of the city for that weekend.
Another rumour I heard is that Putin is staying in The Sofitel, which is literally down the street from where I live. And as far as I know they haven’t banned him from attending.
Things aren’t looking the best in the world right now, but feeling scared isn’t a way I want to ever live my life.
I just can’t help but wonder what’s going to happen. One of my workmates is smart is is taking annual leave to avoid being here, but the rest of us still have to work.
I’m completely jumping to conclusions over what will happen to me when I finish my shift at midnight and 1am and am trying to simply make my way home at that hour of the night, walking right past the Sofitel. Am I going to be sniper-ed down just minding my own business?
Will I be arrested if I forget to leave my carton knife at work because I’ll be considered to be carrying a weapon within close proximity to world leaders?
This is the way my mind has been working for around the past two months.
Then to hear these terror plots today, sheesh.
I’d be pretty interested to hear how intelligence knew these fuckers were planning this.
Pretty scary stuff.
