Almost Done with Season in Still Listening to Spirit

I come here every day to read and am sometimes noting if only to leave my name. A week since I wrote, not much to catch up on, or maybe there is.
Bears are a continuing problem here in town. Fish return not plentiful. Maybe we have more bears than usual? I don’t know the answer but the longshoremen (longshorepersons?) had to chase one off the railroad dock this morning before they tied up a ship. Wonder what food source was clear out there, almost 3 or 4 city blocks from town toward the end there.
I only worked 24 hours in the time period between the 1st and the 15th. Enough for me, one day was 6 hours long. I worked today because we had 4 ships in port and will work tomorrow (Wednesday) because we are the only company in town that sells summit tours on Wednesdays. All other companies are doing Yukon tours that day, go figure.
I am still trying to get a handle on this blood sugar thing. Doing better but still having a problem if I add any more than 20 or so carbs. Trust me, that’s not much. I know I need to get on the treadmill to put the last piece of the puzzle together.
Just to throw a wrench in the works, Lynne gave me more needles until we can figure out whether or not I need insulin past this first month. Bill picked them up and when he got home I was dismayed to discover that instead of the little ones I have been using which have a needle no more than 1/2” long, these are looooong, injection needles. I have yet to use one. These are the scary ones I used to faint over and still don’t watch when I get an injection–opting for the butt rather than the arm.....
I saved the old needles, I know I am not supposed to and have been reusing them after cleaning with alcohol. Not good, I know. Sigh. I think I was wrought up over this after getting them yesterday and even awoke from the pain of the continued stress pains in my back and stomach.....sigh.
Weather crappy. This has been a very, very wet and dreary summer and that is continuing. All the hype over the sun spots and people being able to see the northern lights clear down south–I saw a photo a guy in Arizona took and that display was great–was for naught for us here with the clouds.
The trip to Anchorage for me for eye surgery looks like a no-go. All surgeons there are, of course, booked up. Earliest I could get was week after scheduled to be there, not in sync with Madame’s appointments and I deem too long to stay. We’ll see.
Greg mentionied today that if I wasn’t going, he would have to go. Quite a change from last week when he said that he would have to go to drive since I couldn’t. I just don’t know....I told him I would be happy to go with Madame despite not being able to get the surgery. I will have to discuss further.
Greg is on furlough the month of October from the park service and I know he is gathering everything he needs to do some major work on the house. They have been leveling floor and he has ordered material I think to completely replumb the place. The week lost on trip might put him behind and it would be better for Madame not even to be there during work I am sure he is thinking.
So still up in the air there....
Okay, I’m done, nothing really ‘new’. Blessed be!

maybe if you go with Madam you could let the eye people know and they can contact you if they have a cancellation

Oh I hope you are able to get the needle thing sorted soon. I can't begin to tell you how stressed I was about the right needles at the right time with Sam and Stella. Getting them there must be ever more so complicated. With the season over it seems like you might be able to get into a routine and stabilize. That is scary and sad about the bears.

I see what you're saying about noting "new" but there are plenty of thoughts that aren't the same old thoughts at all! Intresting observation about the bears and the question of their food source, too. For some reason this goes along with the oddity of the aurora borealis showing up not so much "northern" after all. You're right, of course, that it is sad to hear about others seeing "our" northern lights when it is too overcast for us Alaskans to see them at all!
As for the surgery or even the ride-along trip, I'm certain the right step will appear and you'll recognize the rightness. Enjoy the rest of the Autumn!
