Me? Rocky? in Adventures in paradise

I got the most surprising private message on Facebook yesterday, from a guy who’s barely said a word to me over the years. He runs a retro-event business, and I used to go to a few a few years ago, back before I started working night jobs, but since they are always on weekends, and I work every Friday and Saturday night, I’ve never been able to attend since. Anyway I get this message

**Hey Matt

This is completely random but… would you play ‘Rocky’ for us in the ROCKY HORROR floorshow next Fri 19 Sept… I need someone who is buff and comfortable with wearing gold shorts on stage…
Keen? It’s a lot of fun. Not sure if you’ve been to one of our screening/floorshows before…**

At first I was flattered! He thinks I’m buff! Haha. So that was nice. I HAVE been to one of the floorshows and it was pretty entertaining. They play ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ on a screen in front of a stage, and a group of actors (Cards For Sorrow, they call themselves) act out what’s going on on the screen behind them.
I attended because my friend Katy used to invite me, and they were somewhat entertaining, something to do. My favourite ones were the 90’s party events, as that was my era, and I didn’t like the 80’s one as much, even though I was born in the early 80’s.

So then I, being me, started freaking out haha. What was I suppose to say back? I haven’t acted in anything since high school plays, and even then I was pretty bad haha.
I told my housemate about it and he got all excited, totally saying I should do it.
I didn’t really have the confidence. I’m not sure I still do. I’d be doing this in front of a theatre-full of people, I’d have a week to learn my lines, I’d have to try and get the shift off work and it’d be pretty out of my comfort zone.

Now that I’ve had a day to think it over, it doesn’t seem that scary. My housemate reminded me that Rocky doesn’t actually have that many lines, he moreso grunts a lot haha. Maybe I could do that?
Anyway, I saw that he’d made a public facebook post advertising for the position, a few hours after he asked me personally, so I was actually somewhat relieved at that haha! Surely someone (maybe an actual actor) would take up the role for the night?

Even so, I eventually replied.

Haha you think I’m buff and would like wearing gold shorts on stage? You know me so well
I havdn’t acted since HIGH school haha, so I’m not sure I’d be the best guy to play Rocky, however if I was to, I’d have to get it off work as I work weekend nights. Yes I’ve been to a floorshow before, quite some time ago.

As you can see, I didn’t really say yes, nor did I say no. I’m moreso hopeful of the idea someone else will come along, and if they don’t, I’d be happy to give it a go and help out.

Even so, it was nice to be thought of, even if I was joking with my workmates tonight that he must be pretty fucking desperate :P
